Hi everybody,
Hoping somebody can clarify something about amanda
for me.
I have my backups set to run on a 3 day dump cycle
with 6 tapes, running every evening except sunday night. It
seems to work fine, we change the tape each morning so over the course of a week

I am running amrecover daily. The daily amanda.conf has the following:

When I go to extract a file I get the following tape device. Should not
amrecover look at the daily amanda.conf file to get the tape

However, I've noticed that every time Amanda doesn't find a writeable
tape (usually due to the tape not being changed that day) there is very
little data written to the holding disk and the amflush is very very
small. The day after this, the

I run an archive once a month and would like to mark tapes that have been
used by the archive as no-reuse. I have to do this manually now.
Is there a way that this can be done automatically with an amanda
configuration parameter? I have looked for something like this and have not
seen anything

Thank you for the pointer, I think that may be what I needed... will see how
the backups go the rest of this week.

Read up on the 'reserve' parameter in amanda.conf, its default value, and
its effects on degraded mode dumps.
Thanks for the responses... I did a search on the reserve keyword and read
up on it, and I'm pretty sure this is what I was missing. I didn't have
any reserve set, so it was defaulting to 100%. I changed that to 30%. My
holding disk is ~65GB and i'm using 20/40GB travan tapes so I think

Dear Amanda maintainers...

I still have no backups at all, since upgrading to 2.5.1. The server

If I start using usetimestamp yes is there any problem using amanda
programs on older file names? Is there anything that I need to do to the old
files?

I'd expect the amandatape script to be confused by multiple dumps per
day unless the format of the logfiles changed.

Josef, I wish I could answer you definitively, but I can't just yet,
because, for reasons that are apparently unrelated to ssh, I haven't

convinced that they are supposed to arrive at the taper machine via
the ssh connection.
