Just to add to a discussion from about a year ago. gtar 1.23 works fine on ZFS file systems (Solaris 10x86 box) for user-tar backups, but fails (error 11) for snapshots.
I have no idea what the difference is, you'd think backing up a zfs partition was the same as backing up a zfs partition, but there is no arguing with the results. Lacking a clearer/better/faster alternative, I find that gtar 1.22 works fine for zfs snapshot backups.
