Granted - I'm running versions of Amanda that are a little older,
vary from 2.6.x through 3.0.x, the enhancement I'm asking about
may already exist.

I'm thinking of a 'dirty bit' ie, has the tape actually been used.

We have situations where a DLE dumps to holding area, or even to
tape, where the DLE is too small to fit on the tape (we do not have
tape spanning enabled).

We also have situations where a DLE does not dump (often because
ZFS has allowed a user to put hundreds of thousands of files per
directory, so amanda may time out.

Both senarios may leave me with a tape that is mounted, perhaps
even written to, but does not contain a recoverable DLE.

Is it possible for amanda to note this and NO mark the tape as
used, but leave it available for the subsequent amdump run?

                                                thanks,

                                                Brian
