I can't speak for the Debian user I would assume it uses all GNU utils but
for the Solaris user, I think I encountered something like that when I
used the Solaris tar and make. When I used gtar and gmake things ran much
more smoothly. Just a possibility.

Hi all,
I'm doing my amanda backups to a spare disk. I use gtar as the backup
method. The backup process works just fine, but when I go to restore with
amrecover I get:
Extracting files from holding disk on host cain.
The following files are needed: /opt/amanda/dumps/20020405/cain._.2
... no dice.
I've added cain root to .amandahosts
I should tell you these hosts are not in DNS. Only resoved by the hosts
file. Can this have a negative effect on amanda's recovery process?
Thanks,

Greetings,
Upon running amcheck I am getting the following:
ERROR: moon host: [ host: moon port 40739 not secure ]
ERROR: neptune host: [ host: neptune port 40738 not secure ]
Client check: 2 hosts checked in 0.208 seconds, 2 problems found
Upon searching on this error some say to check that

Has anyone out there successfully configured amanda to backup to a spare
hard drive without backing up to tape?
Thanks in advance.
