I see no indication that you replaced your samba with the newest one,
which is supposed to fix that problem as another poster related, the
fix having gone into samba on 10-30-03.

version 3.0.0-Debian from Debian testing) I'll try upgrading to
2.4.4p1-20031202 to see what that gives.
