Hello, I found a bug in tar-1.13.18 that can cause a coredump, it's also possible that it can create a corrupted tar file. This but affect all version of tar, including tar-1.12. You should upgrade to tar-1.13.18 available at ftp://alpha.gnu.org/pub/gnu/tar/tar-1.13.18.tar.gz with the patch from http://www.amanda.org/patches.html. This patch will be included in the next test version of tar. tar-1.13.18 is a lot faster than any previous release.
