Thanks for sharing.

Tested your new amsamba-script right now, still that "missing size line
from sendbackup".

In general: is the dump OK then anyway, or not?

Or: can we ignore that message for now or not?

As far as I test recovery the dumps seem OK, but I would prefer a
definitive statement here ...

I assume the newer amsamba-script should fix that as soon as it works
with recent samba-versions.

I only substituted that one script on my debian 11.3 system and edited
some paths to make it work (@amdatadir@, for example).

Other branches I'd like review on:
  3_5-out-amcryptsimple-fix
  3_5-out-perl-build-changes
  3_5-packaging-upgrade-wip
  3_5-upgrade-gnulib

- the gnulib upgrade may be a bit older than the latest gnulib, but it seems a
good idea anyway].
- the perl-build changes
- the packaging-upgrade-wip branch finally builds correctly for Debian, RPM and
a new one: "tar".
- the packaging-upgrade-wip also creates a 'test' build too (for RPM only
currently) that includes all the installcheck tests in an independent location

[For a "tar" build the make install tree are placed in a "BUILD" subdirectory
in a manner similar to Debian but obviously without creating any package. This
may make Arch or others more easily adapted if anyone was curious as to try.]

Greetings,

It’s been a long spring and summer.   At BETSOL we’re (sigh) very nearly
done with our new Django-based UI for Zmanda 4.0 based on Amanda
3.5.1.   Along with that, we have several updates that need review and
we’d like to get in to the community version we support.  Hopefully
enough to call it 3.6?

-Updates to Amsamba.pl

oBig work simply to update, clean up, and eliminate troublesome warnings.

oUse of “-A” authorization ‘file’ to communicate to smbclient (as
PASSWD_FD caused problems often)

oConsistent use of open3 for checks / backups / restores

I'd be happy to test new amsamba, as mentioned in another thread and on
github.

I don't see any replies to this in the mailing list. Correct?

What exactly do you ask for here?

Why don't you provide access via the amanda github repository, as it is
usual for open source projects?

The amanda-users here wait for several bugs to be fixed, so we are
looking forward to you closing some of the long waiting issues ;-)

Please communicate with the community in a more responsive way.

best wishes, Stefan

Greetings,

-Still need to consistently update the build (old stuff)

o Hasn’t been reviewed but it’s also been changing for us all through the
summer.

-Large updates to NDMP (in ndmp-src)

o Using dynamic memory for lists and data structures so protocol messages are
not limited in numbers.

o A better KEEPALIVE protocol setting so very large transfers don’t time out
the control/info TCP sessions.

o Explicit use of the common-src tcp ports so firewalled ports are correctly
picked from “low/root” or “h/non-root” port lists.

-Updates to Amsamba.pl

o Big work simply to update, clean up, and eliminate troublesome warnings.

o Use of “-A” authorization ‘file’ to communicate to smbclient (as PASSWD_FD
caused problems often)

o Consistent use of open3 for checks / backups / restores

-Upcoming work in server-src

o To prevent oversized shared-memory buffers for S3 (512MB?!?!)

o More consistent use of a ring buffer in several places.

Thanks in advance.
