 You're rather vague both about the no activity and long to respond.  If you mean there's really no activity on the system at all, and therefore the hard drive is not getting hit, could the OS be spinning down the hard drive after a while?  If that's not what you mean, you probably need to

I'm doing tests with Amavisd-new 2.6.1 on Debian. After a period of no activity I see amavisd takes long to respond. Can I change that? are you sure that this is amavisd related? Where do you get your informations? Logfile? Maybe spamassasssin or your MTA is slow? Do you use a virus
