[AMRadio] National Receiver Question

Did National ever make a receiver on which the tuning knob pulled out slightly to become the band switch? If they didn't, who might have made such a mechanical monster? I am trying to help a friend identify a receiver which he has acquired that has this unusual band switch arrangement. All of the
