Ok, I finally got it to work. It's similar to what Luis suggested: http://georgia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1321317 You have to make sure all 3 extensions, pde, jdt and cvs are installed for the eclipse update thing to work properly. They're all listed in synaptic under the filter
