What I didnt like is this redefiniton of concepts like events etc. I
wonder why they keep reinventing the wheel. Which also makes me wonder
why Android why not just improve J2ME.

There is an existing Java JSR for sensors: JSR 256.

That would seem to be the place to start. This JSR is already
supported on many popular phones and has good industry support.
