Being an Android newbie, I wonder: If I spend a lot of time on learning how
to program for Android, developing impressive apps and uploading them to
sell on Google Play - will they automatically be properly copy protected?
Or is it possible to just copy my apk from one device and run it on anoth

Just to add to Kris's post, the "Copy Protection" option in Google Play
should not be used. It's been in a state of "will be deprecated soon" for
like a year now
I've answered this to others as well on android-security, but
basically, if you're thinking that using this licensing service will
absolutely stop your user from being able to reverse engineer your
app, you're plain wrong. You can always consider a hacked rom that

Hi.
The documentation says that the licensing service is a replacement, and the
app can be installed on more phones.

Did you read the documentation for the licensing service?

Hi.
If I'm using the licensing service in my app, I have to set the copy
protection activated
in the developer console?
I don't want that users can copy my apk.
Thanks.

If my "improvements" you mean "did Google provide more code / tutorials /
examples / infrastructure" for the LVL? Then no, I don't think so.

I am just finishing up a game. I would like to protect it as much as
possible. From my understanding, the license protection scheme
introduced a few months ago from android was cracked shortly after
release. Have there been any improvements to this lately? If not,
what are my options to protect

Hi all,
I've noticed the following message on Android Market:
The copy protection feature will be deprecated soon, please use
licensing service instead.
I wonder, is there a fixed schedule for the deprecation of copy
protection? How soon is soon? What will happen to apps that does not
change
Hi,
can you tell me please why if I set the Copy Protection ON from my
developer console,
my apps isn't available on many phones like Sony Ericsson X8 Q1.6 ?

I just pushed an update on one of my apps and noticed a little red line
stating that copy protection will be deprecated soon. What I didn't see was
any mention of what that will mean for us who are currently using it. I'd
love to easily turn that off without the affect on my current users. I mus

There's one way to find out ...

I have an app with Copy Protection on. Since a number of users have
reported being unable to find the app on Market since upgrading to
2.1, I have researched the issue and copy protection seems to be the
culprit.
Turning off copy protection is the answer, but it seems that it leads
to file access
Hello,
Has anyone turned off copy protection on their app recently? We're
finding that Motorola Backflip users can't see our paid apps, so we'd
like to turn off copy protection as it doesn't seem to prevent
pirating.
But, we're worried that existing users will lose their saved
preferences. Acco
I have "Copy Protection" turned on for my app, but now i want to
remove it
Will there be any problems if i remove it now?
Thanks

When a bug is marked as "FutureRelease" it usually means it will be
fixed in the next release at the time the bug is closed. Anyhow, it
means the bug has been fixed and will eventually reach users phones :)

1. When the "copy protection" checkbox was first introduced on Android
Market, I heard about a lot of issues with people not being able to
download etc. Have those issues been resolved now? If I turn on copy-
protection on an app with over 10K active users, do I risk a major
rebellion?
