The Notification API allows to set a drawable resource id for the icon of a notification. This drawable resource id is used to put the icon in the status bar and in the expanded window shade.
This is a limitation if the icon images are to be represented by a Drawable or from a content provider at runtime. I propose that the Notification class adds fields (or methods) that would allow to set a Drawable or an Uri for the notification icon. This Drawable or Uri would then be used by the system notification service to put the icon in the status bar and in the expanded window shade.
