You could check out the Pre-Paid plan from T-Mobile. Make sure that
you ask whether you can get the plan without purchasing a new phone
and whether it works with the G1.
With the Pre-Paid plan you have limited costs and you might be to
testing on the cellular network if needed.

i don't think one can use samsung i7500 as a development device. i
can't use adb tool to connect the device under windows xp and ubuntu,
so i am looking for getting a g1.

I have an ADP1 here without a sim card - I put that in the Google IO
phone - and I can use the phone on my wifi network. HTC provides
updates for the ADP directly from their site, I upgraded to 1.5r2
earlier today. So I see no problem in having an ADP or other Android
phone without a contract.

There is a charge for the plan on my phone, but it's outdated, and I
