Thank you. Using ALT and moving the window with the left mouse button seem
to work fine under sawfish as well. Even though my screen is tall enough
for the emulator window it will place off the top...

I feel your pain. My screen is also not tall enough for the emulator
window. However, there's a simple trick that works at least for KDE. Keep
pressed and drag the window down until the title bar appears. You can
click anywhere inside the window. It's just like grabbing the window's
title bar.
