I am doing research regarding the fingertip features and its change over 
time(yes, they do seem to change, but only a bit).
For this i would want to use the fingertip sensor of my smartphone to be 
able to record a 2-minute recording of the actual fingertip features. Is 
this possible?
I have searched and the only code i found is about, well, using the sensor 
for security measures.
Is there anyone who knows how to use the sensor in this way?

Ok I actually figured out the answer, after TWO DAYS of experimenting and 
getting ideas from Google searches.  This is what works to get the date, 
and put it in a string I can use:

In the XML file, I added this line to the TextClock definition:

android:format12Hour="dd  "


of course, the format could be adjusted to any date/time info you want.


And in the java file, put the info into astring with these three lines, placed 
appropriately:


TextClock txtClock;


txtClock = (TextClock) findViewById(R.id.txtClock);


volText.setText(txtClock.getText());


("volText" is a TextView elsewhere defined.)


I'm rather amazed this information was so hard to find and put together from 
bits and pieces.

Such needs/solutions should be clearly explained somewhere.

[android-developers] GLSurfaceView Staying on screen after changing tab

I use a GLSurfaceView to render some images onto a View in a Fragment.  On 
all the previous Android versions, I don't have any issues.  I can change 
the fragment and the view (with the images) disappears.  However, with 
Android N, the images stay on top of all the other views regardless of what 
fragment I change to.  Any ideas on where to look or how to remedy this 
would be appreciated.

[android-developers] Dealing with the Marshmallow Memory Mess

We all know about the mess that Marshmallow brought with extended memory.  
I do have an occasional patient who complains that they can't access the 
database which is kept in an "extended memory" folder as it has been for 
years (and as many apps do).  The only way I can replicate their problem is 
to turn off the new memory permission setting in Settings for my app.  But 
the patient usually has that on (as it is usually on by default).   Code is 
exactly the Google recommended procedure for this.  Either something has 
corrupted their database though in the past when someone had this they sent 
me a copy of the database and it was okay.   Or something is blocking it.  
Or some manufacturers have messed this feature up on the phone.  My tests 
both with Android 6 emulators and a device show everything okay.

[android-developers] Making my app a home app.

When I install something like Nova Launcher, the app comes up as a choice
when I hit the home button, with an option to make it the permanent home app.

What do I need to do to my application to make it behave this way?

My name is Orlando. We are working in an STB with Android TV OS like nexus 
player or nVidia Shield tv (not Android OS for tablet like common android 
tv boxes).

*We want to know about the license fees*. Do we need to pay a license to 
distribute the Android TV os in our STB?

Also,  using the official Android TV OS, we will be able to stream Netflix 
in HD or 4K?
