[android-developers] What’s up with ADC2 Round1 re sults?

2009-11-04 Thread Mobidev
A moonth to review the ratings? (30 days
wait is that much annoying). Are we short of computers at Google?
What’s your guess about the delay?

Is it that the Droid “drop” is holding back ADC2? We know that
Motorola is desperately trying to involve third-party applications as
part of overall experience for Motorola devices, but ADC2 is purely
Google’s commitment towards the platform the dev community. Did they
join forces for a bigger bang tomorrow? Does spontaneous winding up of
ADC2-Round1 on 6th of Oct (exactly a month before Droid launch) hint
anything?

All day Android dev labs scheduled from Nov 9 till Nov 20 hints that
Round2 may not start until early Dec. But, lets keep this theory aside
for a day while Droid prepares for the “drop”.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9fXYQjwR0w. Any idea what's the
dropping(PP) charges of this provider? Anyway, after watching this
I'd prefer to pick one from the store than get it delivered.

With 2.0 SDK released and no signs of ADC Round2 yet, worst nightmare

[android-developers] Re: ADC2 results

2009-10-21 Thread Mobidev

I was wondering same and some thought on that can be found here:
http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/browse_thread/thread/4cf048e0c86d81ef

Having said that, we shouldn't expect any intermediate status update
from Google, as developers(who also manage ADC2) are engaged in series
of new releases for the holiday season. One fine day the blog will be
updated and judging app will start delivering selected 200 apps for
judging. ADC1 definitely score above ADC2 in terms of developer
community interaction. ADC2 so far has been dull in that respect.
Neither do we have an official group to discuss ADC2.

[android-developers] Re: ADC2 First Round Complete?

2009-10-18 Thread Mobidev

Um... still no news eh.  How many of you want to bet that the
finalists are already contacted and we are in the Summer of Slience
 equivalence of ADC1?
Everyone will be informed through the blog post. There may not be a
need to inform the selected entries in advance before Round 2. If at
all an individual notification of round 1 result is planned, then it
will be sent out to all entries irrespective of the judgement.

You may also want to read/comment this...

[android-developers] ADC2 Tea-Party2

2009-10-16 Thread Mobidev

Any news from your sources regarding progress/start of ADC2 Round2 Tea-
Party? I’m looking forward to taste at least 50 cups of tea out of 200
that will be offered.

Isn’t it taking a bit longer to review Round-1 scores? Though we are
not in position to judge how complex it might get beind the scene to
review 1219*103 scores. Yet, what’s your best guess that’s taking it
so long?

I believe best 200 apps are now identified and preparations are
underway to provide these to expert-judges on 1.5 devices. If you
missed ADC1, apps were deployed on 140 cloned- laptops(Ubuntu) and 115
of these were shipped globally. If you weren’t here during ADC1 and
haven’t come across Dan’s ADC1 behind-the-scene post, you can find it
here:
http://android-developers.blogspot.com/2008/05/challenge-in-more-than-one-way.html

Well that was pre-G1 era. Though devices are available now, I don’t
think all “expert” judges will be able to discover the ADC2 judging
app to start with. Also, community-judging app “as-is” may not be
suitable for judging by the experts. They might not be allowed to skip
a cup of stewed tea if it is offered by the app. ADC1 took great care
to provide neutral and identical judging environment. Similarly ADC2
might provide a separate judging platform (1.5 device and a modified
judging app) to expert-judges.

When will the Round2 start? Calculating it in reverse chronological
order. ADC2 ends by last week of November. Two weeks before that to
collate the scores and get the winners list out. A cooling-off week to
let the judging app stop accepting reviews from community judges. Two
weeks to judge the apps after announcing the start of judging for
Round 2 (which again might be cut short for same reason). So that
brings us to expect Round 2 announcement either today or latest by
next week. It’s appreciated that Adc2 has not seen any slippage from
announced dates so far.

P.S
Tea isn’t my cup of tea.

[android-developers] Re: ADC2 submissions and Android 1.6 (Donut)

2009-09-30 Thread Mobidev

+1 judging app shouldn't function on 1.6

ADC2-Round1 should end before 1.6 official upgrade.
Existing judging app should not be used for ADC2-Round2 (create a new
version) and...
neither should the new judging app (round2) function on 1.6

[android-developers] Request to official ADC2 team.

2009-09-14 Thread Mobidev

. Once upon a time, we had this little group…
http://groups.google.com/group/android-challenge Android Challenge:
Discuss the Android Developer Challenge, including questions on
contest details. You can also seek other developers to join a team
effort.
   …then came this message…
http://groups.google.com/group/android-challenge/browse_thread/thread/c95216dc28b8f74c
…and the group was closed for ever.

A humble request to ADC2 team to officially start and moderate a new
ADC2 group similar to the previous android-challenge group. ADC2
messages are scattered in android-developers and android-discuss
groups. ADC2 discussions does not fit in either of these groups. There
will be hundreds of queries, comments, news and PR pitches once the
ADC2 judging app goes live. So please could you start a ADC2
discussion group at the earliest.

Thanks.
P.S. Droids of the planet please vote with '+' or '–' for this
request.

[android-developers] ADC2 entries so far...

2009-09-13 Thread Mobidev

Its mid September and ADC team will soon launch the ADC 2 judging
application. So far its been a great job by the ADC team with sticking
to the submission deadline and swift uploads(leaving aside package
name confusion among the participants).

Meanwhile, below are about 105 ADC2 entries posted on forum. In case
of new additions or corrections please reply to this discussion with
category app name links. ADC1 saw about 1788 apps and my guess
is ADC2 will see a tleast 2500 apps considering the tight deadline
(could have been much higher(4K+) otherwise).

From the trend it seems that the Miscellaneous category has far less
entries than Prod/Tools and Games(both) categories. Possibly, 21st
ranking entry under Prod/Tools could be much better than 3rd ranking
entry under Misc category. Unlike ADC1, this time Category will be a
key factor in winning; along with Originality, Effective Platform Use,
Polish and Indispensability.
