[android-developers] Passing html formatted text to Gmail not working anymore

I used to be able to create simple html formatted mails, with bold text and
anchors.
Unfortunately this code doesn't work anymore when passing the intent to
Gmail or Inbox.
The mail body only shows plain text, and only text starting with "http://;
is shown as link(blue and underlined).
I've tried passing the intent to "MailDroid" app and it still works.
It seems to me that it has to do with some Gmail app update(30 November
2016), but I was wondering if I could do anything to solve it.

Hi, it is possible to make a daydream translucent/transparent? I can do this with an activity using android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Translucent.NoTitleBar.Fullscreen" but how to set it on a daydream service? I have tried using only code: setTheme(android.R.style.Theme_Translucent_NoTitleBar_Fullscreen); + getWindow().setBackgroundDrawable(new ColorDrawable(0)); but does not work both for activities and daydream. [android-developers] Shared object model between Android and server applications
Hi all, I'm developing a client/server application where an Android phone should call some service on a server using JSON. To better work between client and server I defined a shared object model, actually it is a simple Maven project, but to use in Android project I must copy the classes in the Android project. Someone have some advice to better handle this scenario? Hi, some testers are reporting me this error on some smartphone and I really don't know what it is and how to fix it. Someone has an idea? They log I got from the play store console developer was only this :-( But luckily I just found a phone that has the same error and had more information on the logcat. No, it was not my problem =) I just had to add mGamesClienta.setViewForPopups(gameView); and it worked =) Yes, it was not random, I tought it was ranom becouse I had only reports from people. Hello, I'm developing an android app for some time now. Everything is going well. When I close my app with the home button and I reopen it there aren't any problems or crashes. Thank you for understaing me, my english is not so good :-( Now, how can I tell the code to do not re-create on orientation change when you lock the screen? The code should handle it without crashing, but it would not be playable (a game design decision), so if it change orientation when the screen is locked is not a problem. anything.
Any solution on this? What I'm doing wrong?

Hello everyone, I have this stupid problem with playing a video on my app
(game). It's very easy. Just don't work. I'm 100% sure it's not the video
codec because I have tried with a video that should work 100% sure.

I would like to have a complete list of all the incompatibilities between the android sdk and the jdk 7. It isn't possible to sign an apk using the JSDK 7. What are the other incompatibilities? [android-developers] Fragment communication and view null
Hi,
I'm developing an application for Galaxy Tab (api level 8) and I have
found a problem.
I use a pageadapter with 2 fragments, MainCLIFrag and AssArtCliFrag,
under the relevant code:
the problem is:
in the MainCLIFrag I have a search button for choosing a customer from
a list (I show a ListActivity), after chosen,
in the MainCLIFrag I show the Customer Detail and in the AssArtCliFrag
the list of his orders;
if I change the customer, in the MainCLIFrag I communicate to the
AssArtCliFrag that the customer was changed, so, the orders are
refreshed.
Everything works until the configuration changes (screen rotation for
example), in this case, the variabile view in the AssArtCliFrag
becomes null, and I'm not able to refresh the orders anymore, even
getActivity() is null.
To get again the orders, I have to go AssArtCliFrag, rotate the
screen, so, the event onCreateView fires and the view will be set
again.
That is very annoying and I don't know how to solve it.
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated,

[android-developers] Good phone for development - and getNeighboringCellInfo()
Hi all. I am about to start an Android development project. I would like some advice before starting with the project. First of all, I have done some research on which phone would be the best to do Android development. I have seen many suggestions, but most people seem to point at the Google Nexus One (or its UK equivalent, the HTC Desire). I was wondering if there is anything more recent that is as good as the Nexus One. I have seen people suggesting the Nexus S, but I'd rather not use a Samsung phone for the reason I'll explain below. Also, the HTC Desire S seems to have a signed bootloader, and I'd like to be able to tinker with the OS if I will need to during the project (this is not a commercial application, it's more of a research project, so it's ok if I need to modify the OS). The HTC Desire HD seems more like a modern alternative to the Desire, but I have found no one suggesting it as a good, modern developer phone for Android. Any other suggestion? For this project I will need to triangulate the user's location using GSM cell info. Problem is that sometimes, we will need to triangulate the position *after* the phone has lost signal (i.e. the user has gotten into an underground transport system). I was thinking of two possible strategies to do so: 1. write an application that stays in the background and uses LocationManager + LocationManager.NETWORK_PROVIDER to receive location updates from the network provider and then use the latest known location 2. log all the cell IDs I see and use the last few ones (together with their known location) at a later time to triangulate the user's location Strategy #1 has the obvious advantage that it is supported by most Android phones and works reasonably well for what I need to do. Problem is, it will drain the user's battery. Even if it is relatively cheap to use Network Location instead of GPS to locate the user, I need only to locate the user when he/she enters the public transit network. If the user goes out of town, my application will keep querying the location provider for nothing. Strategy #2 works reasonably well for my purposes, as I suppose the phone will see a different set of cells depending on the entry point (and therefore it might not even be necessary to do the actual triangulation, I could build a database of (Station Name, Set of visible cells) tuples and consult it without even bothering translating that into actual coordinates. Also, logging the cell information is something that can be done substantially for free, as the phone already has that information and I am only reading it and discarding it if I don't need it. Trouble is, in this case, that I have seen that the function for doing this on Android don't always work well on all phones. I know, by reading previous posts on this forum, that Samsung phones don't support getNeighboringCellInfo(). Also, many *other* phones don't support that function. I was wondering: is there anyone here who knows of a current phone that supports getNeighboringCellInfo() *for sure*? [android-developers] Getting Wave in a Box working on android
Hello everyone, I'm having troubles with Wave in a Box and Android, and i'd like to ask some questions. In order to develop a proof of concept client i started by building a small API out of the wave-protocol source tree (using wiab code from hg repository taken 2010/11/08) and i've created a new android project in eclipse, which contains a single class that implements WaveletOperationlistener. When compiling the app in eclipse i get a lot of warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. (This class was probably produced by a broken compiler.) errors. This seems not to be a problem as from various searches on the web. But when i try to run the application the phone reboots. No messages on eclipse debugger. no clues at all. Investigating on the InnerClasses errors resulted in a problem related to the dalvik vm not able to convert code not generated by java 1.5 (so, is this really a problem or not?) Taking out the API external jars one at a time has shown that the problematic jars are JLine and google inject. So i downloaded the source of JLine and recompiled it for 1.5. Warning gone. But google inject is still there with the warning. phone reboots. If i leave out the google inject dependency the client works, meaning it doesn't crash and reboot, but gives a timeout exception while connecting the socket. (naturally i have a wave server running and chrome is able to talk to it) So now i'm stuck there. Should i change wave-protocol code to allow a longer timeout? Did anyone managed to get this to work on android? any advice or docs i should read? as a side note, the 0.2 version of the wave-protocol used to work and i'm able to connect, get waves and add/remove blips. so the problems seems to be related to the new communication method based on websockets. [android-developers] Dev phone linux (and Windows)
Hi, as company we want buy some android phone. The phone will be used for developers to test and run applications. Which phone are the best for this? We have both Windows and Linux system, which android mobile will work on both system for developing? What I mean is that adb and eclipse can connect to the phone, and, when possible that the phone uses the computer network. For example I have tested the htc wildfire and I have seen that in windows the default usb drivers does not works with adb and eclipse. Only work installing htc software , but this is only for windows. [android-developers] XML parsing slow ... cache!
Hi, I have seen that xml parsing is very slow. Using sax would be better, but benchmark show that sax work only 30% faster as dom. Is right? Is faster if I construct a DOM using sax? To reduce time i like to cache xml file. Caching it as xml is not a good idea because the parsing time is there again the secondo time. Should I use sqllite? Is faster? Is an idea to use an ObjectOutputStream? [android-developers] Strange out of memory on bitmap but there is free heap space
Hi, I have a list view that display about 25 images with size 60x60 pixels. I dowload this images from internet and I store in an arraylist as Bitmap. I need to save it in a arraylist because a listview will recycle views and so I need, wenn the user scroll, to display the image in the new view WITHOUT downloading again from internet But after some time I got java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget It seams that I got this exception about after loading 20 images ... Reading in forum I have read about memory heap. I try to check the memory heap usage with: Debug.getNativeHeapAllocatedSize and Debug.getNativeHeapSize() When the exception occours both are about 4M. But android has more than 4M? When the application start the values are a little less to 4M so it seams is not a big memory usage or memory leak. To be sure I want to call : ActivityManager.getMemoryClass() but this method is and instance method and I can't find the object to invoke!!! But this method say, that al min should an application have 16M! Any help? I have seen many topics in google ... but all speak about recycle. But if I recycle a bitmat ... then should I download again from internet? But the raw binary is counted towards the total heap allowed for your app's linux-process. That's where you see the discrepancy. And yes, i would cache your images on your file-system. Hi, I try to implements lazy loading of images in a listview. There is no android features to make this, so I should implement it by myself. Have anyone alread done this? Hi, I have some issue about performance. I have found how to reduce the number of objects I create to increase speed. [android-developers] Programmatic Key Press
I have to associate a bluetooth Joystick move, with his own protocol, to key press. I mean, I move the stick to the left and phone react to a left dpad key press, or, when I receive a call I move the stick right for answer, and left for end the call. For that I need to do a key press through my application. Is this possible?
