[android-developers] root required to search for a file in /system folder?

Hi I want to create an app that searches the /system for the chmod command. Do I need root to traverse the folders and files? I notice that the chmod command is in different folders depending on device. I need this path in order to make a file executable that comes with my app. Thanks! --

I love the Android Tools Rename Application Feature in Eclipse. However it recently broke for me (I think it stopped working after I imported a library as a reference - using the lvl library), every time I try to rename a package, I input the new package name, click ok and I get an error
