Dear colleagues:

I hope all is well with you. The 2008 Libertarian Party of Virginia state convention will take place at the Richmond Marriott (500 E. Broad Street) in Richmond on Saturday (March 29). I hope you will attend the convention, as I believe it will be a good event. I am writing to provide some information for you, and to request some information from you. Allow me to offer my thanks to LPVa secretary Marc Montoni for his work in support of the convention, and to our colleagues George Marchenko, Bill Redpath, Arin Sime, Don Tabor, and Bill Wood for their willingness to serve as speakers during the convention.

1) I need to provide a head count to the hotel no later than tomorrow (Wednesday, March 26) concerning the number of luncheon attendees, as well as the number of attendees during the morning and afternoon sessions (so that I may order the appropriate amounts of beverages). Thus, if you are planning to attend any part of the convention and have not yet contacted me about the convention, please let me know your plans as soon as possible. Please note that to the extent I do not have a reasonably accurate estimate of the number of convention attendees, it is more likely that I shall not order the right amount of food and beverage. If you wish to attend the luncheon (a buffet) and have special dietary requirements, please let me know. I am pleased to announce that presidential candidate Michael Jingozian has chosen to sponsor the convention luncheon, and has made a generous donation to the LPVa for this purpose. Please join me in thanking Mr. Jingozian for his generosity.

2) The special convention rate for guest rooms ($124.00 per night (single or double occupancy), plus taxes and fees) at the hotel expired as of March 7. However, if you want to attend the convention and stay at the Marriott on the evening of March 28, I may be able to obtain reservations for one or two guest rooms at the convention rate. Please contact me immediately if you want me to make inquiries about a guest room. Please note that there is a $12.00 parking fee for overnight guests at the hotel.

3) At this time, presidential candidates Wayne Allyn Root and Mary Ruwart have committed to participate in our convention. Robert Jackson, Michael Jingozian, and Steve Kubby have informed me that they will not be able to participate; they expressed their best wishes to the LPVa for a very successful event. The other announced candidates I contacted have not responded as of this date. 4) The LPVa will host a hospitality suite at the Marriott from 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. on Friday evening (March 28). The suite is open to all current members of the LPVa. I am also pleased to mention that presidential candidate Wayne Allyn Root has chosen to sponsor the hospitality suite, and has made a generous donation to the LPVa for this purpose. Please join me in thanking Mr. Root for his generosity.

5) As I have mentioned previously, if you have been gathering petition signatures to place the Libertarian Party presidential ticket on the ballot in November, please bring the signatures you have gathered to the convention. I anticipate that we shall have notaries at the convention who can notarize the signatures you have gathered.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or comments about the convention. You are welcome to contact me via e-mail or by calling me at (434) 973-5958. Information about the convention is available on the LPVa website at http://lpva.com/HTML/2008convention.htm.

Thank you for your work for liberty, and for your consideration of this message. I look forward to seeing you at the convention.

  Take care,
  Jim
