AP. 18 March 2003. Four Arrested During Recruitment Protest. LANSING, N.Y -- Four people were arrested for trespassing at a military recruiting station during an anti-war protest in which they splattered human blood onto an American flag, authorities said Tuesday. Tompkins County sheriff's deputies arrested the four protesters Monday afternoon after they entered the U.S. Army and Marine Corps recruiting station at the Cayuga Mall in Lansing, about 40 miles southwest of Syracuse. Protesters took what they claimed was their own blood and splashed it onto the windows, walls and sidewalk of the military recruitment station, said Tompkins County Sheriff's Capt. Joseph Vitale. "They used real human blood because it's a symbol," Maryann Florence Grady, one of the protesters, told The Ithaca Journal. "We would rather see this blood shed than from those innocent in Iraq." The four were charged with criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and trespassing, a violation.
