Your observations are correct - I am afraid the maps have so much data behind 
them, that we can?t calculate them on the fly and you can?t combine dimensions 
like that.

It is possible, but requires research into the feasibility so I am afraid we 
can?t commit to it.  It is not something we are actively working on at the 
moment.

If you are developing a site showing maps, and dealing with a smaller group of 
data (e.g. a few datasets, or a few taxa) then I think you?ll have to download 
the records and use something like Geoserver, Mapserver, Esri or CartoDB for 
example to visualise them.
