It should be the content-type,  but clients usually rely on the extension
instead.  Since all those brain-dead windoze clients don't look at the
content-type,  server admins don't need to bother setting the content types
right (there is some kind of extension to content-type table on the
server),  and when you use a proper client that relies on content-type
information,  you usually find it's not available.

If you hit that problem often with the same site,  tell the server admin.
He'll probably die of shame (putting unix downloads on a server and not
setting the content-type properly...  I'd say that should be a criminal
offense :-)
