If I understand correctly, vim has now been included on the live medium.
The vi package has been an orphan for some time now, and remains an orphan.
Judging by the comments in this thread, most devs wish to use vim instead of vi.
A symlink can be added so that vim provides /usr/bin/vi.

Based on my own personal experience, after doing minimal config to get
archlinux booting on my machine, I reboot and install vim to finish
config work. As a result, I will not personally miss vi.
