The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) opened its 18th
Plenipotentiary Conference in Guadalajara, Mexico on 4 October 2010. The
ITU Plenipotentiary, held every four years, represents the highest
authoritative body of the ITU. During this critical meeting, also known
as PP10, Member States (there are 193 sovereign nation members) will
determine the ITU's policy and strategic direction for the next four years.
Representatives from AfriNIC, APNIC, ARIN, and LACNIC have been present
at the PP-10 and are actively engaging with governments on the
resolutions relevant to the global Internet community, particularly as
it pertains to the increasing interest of the ITU and some Member States
in the management and distribution of Internet number resources.
The meeting is in it's final week where proposals are being brought to
the plenary for readings and approval. As much of the documentation is
restricted to member internal use (ARIN is a sector member) it is not
possible to share much detail at this point. An information page has
been created on the NRO website to inform the global Internet community
on the resolution topics.
