Been seeing so many emails expressing their disappointment on
one or other recent arr albums.. that is perfectly alright but
I am just trying to understand your expectations..

I have been with Arr's music for a good 2 decades if we include jingles
and other misc work Arr has done for television..
Most of his compositions are masterpieces..right, but
the thing about Arr's composition is that if not the whole song,
at least there will always be something special about the composition at least
in a bit here or there or pallavi or charanam or ..it might be just the way
maestro uses the chorus or an instrument or weaving of an interlude or voice
modulation or something.
Such special sparks here and there are enough to give me enough
pleasure to continue hearing and keep waiting for the next album.
With respect to arr's efforts so far I never failed to see his sincerity,
dedication and his craftsmanship in any of his works.

Even though Arr is an absolute music wizard, I cannot possibly expect
him to produce song after song to blew me away completely continuously.

Actually after 18 years of creative output even today at least one or two songs
in his every new release
make me think that may be this is one of the arr's finest work..
felt so with yeh jo de hai tera, terebina, newyork, mausam and escape,
dil ka rista, kwaja, kaise mujhe, animal spirits, puthiya manitha, plenty
more..

Even in puli - which became a victim of many critics, arr surprised me with his
creativity in ammathalle, his idea of mixing rap and melody in dochey and his
expression in nammakam.

Only wondering to know .. are Arr's recent compositions soo bad to you that you
dont find even a single chorus piece or an instrument or anything that interest
you? Isnt there anything special at all?
How about try to point out what is that you liked and what is
that you did not like.
Doesnt it help Arr understand your expectations better than
if we just say "oh utter dissappointment, there is no soul no soup"?

I do not know about others but I am very happy with whatever He gives.
By the way, whoever said that even many new composers can do a puthiya manitha,
I have difficulty agreeing with that opinion.. but hay..you are welcome to
express!

Raghu

Expectations galore

For Oscar winner AR Rahman, burden is nothing new.
“The burden of expectations has always been upon me, whether on the
regional, national or international front,” he says, “For me, everybody
is important. While there are certain elements that might be repeated,
the creative element is the scariest aspect of composition. Even while
giving one’s creative best, there is always a fear lurking whether the
music would be appreciated or not.”
Every music director has his own approach to creativity. What path
does ARR adopt? “It’s more of a mental preparation. When I hear a
story, it goes into my system, and I can’t take it out of me. That’s
the reason I avoid meeting people; it then becomes difficult to say
no,” he smiles.

Talking about the current music in the
Indian film industry, he says, “A lot of good things are happening, but
I miss the mastery over classical music in the compositions.” We all
know that a true genius is humility personified. That, for you, is ARR.

The right words which we should think of at the moment is

' SINGA NADAI POTTU SIGARATHIL YERU' SIGARATHAI ADAINTHAAAL VAANATHIL
YERU""""""

Our Boss will walk like a lion and reach heights of success with Yuvraaj, and
after achieving them will climb to the sky in terms of name and fame... Sure to

"The final major selling point of the movie is the music of course
and what a prospect we have on our hands! Firstly any soundtrack from
Rahman is anticipated on an epic scale by fans worldwide. So the fact

that he pairs up with known success partners (the great lyricist
Gulzar and director Ghai), can only enhance our expectations! It is a
well known fact that Subhash favours one and only one musician for
his movies:

"Rahman and I have been in touch constantly. We gel really well. Like
Taal, Yuvvraaj is based on music. I've told Rahman, Yuvvraaj belongs
to two people, Rahman and Subhash Ghai, in that order. All the main

characters are musicians in Yuvvraaj."

So the characters of Yuvvraaj are musicians in the movie? And (as
implied) such is the grand role of music that the director resorts to
crediting the movie to Rahman first? What does that say for the

quality of the music in the movie? It goes without saying that if
it's anywhere near as good as "Taal", we are in for something truly
special indeed. Incidentally, the OST is released in early October

and something you need to add to your wish list now…."

I'm always tense before a new Rahman release since I want it to
succeed and hope the music fulfills my expectations, which it mostly
does and many times surpasses! I'm with you on this one!

Just think...Mani, Rahman, Gulzarback together. Curious to
know what will be the result. Have a feeling it will be fresh and given
that the movie is a love story, we can hopefully look forward to some
very melodious music (unlike Yuva which was more about rhythm).
