I share the same feelings too. Not only the soundtracks and bgms, but even as
the respective films are concerned, I would pick Raavanan (haven't watched
Raavan yet) rather than VTV. There was something eccentric, mystifying yet
enriching in the film. ...not sure why it didn't fare too well at the
box-office. Then again, I also loved Dilse and it bombed at the box-office
too.Probably not everyone's choice of films, I gather.

VTV didn't hold the same sort of excitement for me (well, maybe I'm a weird
person, thus I tend to have weird tastes in films) like Raavanan did. The songs
are nice and I loved them at the time it was released. But after watching them
on the screen, only Manipaya (weird placing in the film-my humble opinion) and
Aaromale stayed close to my heart. Can't say much about the bgm though. I've
only watched the film once and not surprisingly, I can't remember any of them
now.

Ok, this maybe a dumb question, but isn't it kinda weird to compare Maniratnam
with Gautham Menon? And what's the meaning of "his kind of music"? I. for one
thought that being diverse and unpredictable is what makes ARR, ARR?

Dileep and ARR is the same person..and both of them had the same brain..
And set me free was a synth-pop masterpiece of the 80's. Dont bring in

Well what you really missed was those impressive Ad jingles by the very same
Dileep who is no other than AR himslef. It was the same Dileep who impressed
Mani Ratnam. You might have also read that AR as Dileep had shocked many
veteran composers who by then had predicted that this young AR (Dileep) will
grow to the greater heights in music. Dileep was none other than the budding AR
Rahman.
Your stance to pull out Kamini Mathai's quote is equally disappointing as I
considered her writing on AR was much to do with AR's religious matter than the
man himself. Forget Dileep or AR, Kamini Mathai's writing failed to impress the
readers and his fans.

Re: [arr] Dileep Reborn....???

2010-08-24 Thread dass

I mostly blame the directors who work with ARR for this scenario to happen. I
believe that it is always what the director approves to proceed with. I suspect
a lot of gems are shelved because of the directors.

Look at the recent example: If Gowtham can bring out the ARR touch in VTV
bgm/songs, why couldn't Maniratnam do the same in Raavanan bgm/songs? These are
composed more or less at the same time, I guess.

I think that ARR should work with the new breed of talented directors like
Gowtham so that he keeps his fans busy listening to "his kind of music" rather
than writing advices to him (including this)!
