Hmm interesting because we did not see any of the issues listed in your post. May be our oracle client version is not the same as in your post. I am not an expert on oracle internals other than what ever remedy is needed. Recently we upgraded our env from version 7.1 to 8.0.002 in RedHat Linux

Please check if you have configured the target server name, target server port configured correctly on the source server side.
