I just ran a very quick test and found that if I:
- Delete the Drop Down field
- Create a new Character field with the same database ID
- Save the form
The new field still has all the data - without having to export / import the
data. This would be great as

What are you saying. You deleted field1 and created field2 with field ID of
field1 and still you can see the data of field1 in field2?
That is not possible. If you delete a field, remedy will delete its
corresponding column from the database.
Is there a way to create an VM Image for remedy and use it commercially for
trainings or leaning on multiple systems?
How can you install ITSM on laptop? Don't you need a license from BMC?

You are correct. Complete egg on my face.
I duplicated data from another field when I was testing and then got the two of
the mixed up when I was reviewing.
I will put it down to wishful thinking and rushed testing. Time to go home for
the day.

What version are you using? I remember being very frustrated with the Dev
Studio search feature in 7.5 and didn't use it for years. Somewhere along
the lines it got better (or I got smarter) and I have pretty good success
with it now.
Are you using ITSM? I searched for RETRY_UPDATE
I do have on Record Object Relationships and this is a custom app using 7.6.04
server and Dev Studio 8.1.00 (according to the about dialog box). I searched
the AR System Metadata Filter form where Short Query=%RETRY_UPDATE% and it
found 15 objects, so very strange indeed.
