QBE Change Impact

Hi All, I know that when you change an index there is a performance lag while the index is being built/rebuilt. Is the same true when changing the QBE on a field from leading to equal? Just want to assess the user impact before making the change. ARS 6.3 patch 20 Oracle 9.2 SunOS 5.9 Thanks
