Well, I tried again after downgrading to JDK 1.5.0_17 and the install went
without a hitch. The only difference was the version of the JDK, so I guess
it didn't like 1.6.0_06.

Thanks for the suggestions. Now, all I need is to find a 36 inch monitor so
I can use the Developer Studio

Same here, we installed all of the bells and whistles in a Window 2003 VM
with SQL 2005 Java 1.6 and Tomcat that come bundled with it. Using RDP to
install we were prompted to disable the temp dir flush and tscc.msc settings
and reboot before it would continue. I was actually pretty impress with the
install (ease, speed, etc).

Also check out the uidemo that is on the BMCDN. There are some really nice
new features (although some are web only).

Installed everything except FTS and SNMP. I registered with portmapper but
left both following port numbers blank.

Are you doing this over RDP? There was a note in the install guide to
disable temp dir flushing, etc using tscc.msc to avoid install problems. I
thought "boy I am glad I saw that, I wonder what would have happened..."
:-)
