I may have similar problem. My source text in czech language is in utf-8
encoding. Output into xhtml is fine and accented characters are correct, pdf
output on the other hand has not correct accented chars - it has '#' char in
place of characters that don't belong latin-1. It seems that

i just played around with asciidoc and stumbled about
german umlauts like 'ä', 'ü' and such.
Is it possible with asciidoc to generate these in pdf
and xhtml output? I couldn't find anything in the User Guide.
