[Assam] perfect world
I used to wish for separate lanes on the highways for 18 wheelers. Now I wish there were separate lanes for vans and station wagons as well, right side lanes, that is! But it is not a perfect world, is it? ___ assam mailing list assam@assamnet.org http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
Re: [Assam] perfect world
Hi A: This sure is a wish out of no-where! What made you opine for these anyway? Give us the context. Perhaps someone can help you with an alternative solution to seeking the perfect world! :-) c-da On Oct 26, 2011, at 3:38 PM, Alpana B. Deepavali greetings and good wishes to you all ! Please find the note and appeal below by Kaushik das of Assam. We request your financial support for this just cause. The residents of North America can contribute online through AFNA website http://www.assamfoundation.net/index.php?option=com_contentview=articleid=45Itemid=30 Otherwise you can write directly to Kaushik das at atmanirb...@sify.com By giving, Let's brings happiness and joy to someone's life , Let's turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Sincerely Ankur Bora Dallas , Texas - Most of you will be knowing that AFNA is supporting our 'Spreading Sunshine' project. The primary aim of 'Spreading Sunshine' is to try to improve the 'quality of life' of the marginalised people living in residential social welfare institutions like orphanages, destitute homes etc. , by mobilising support from the public. We make it a point to visit some of these homes during Dewali, both the Bihus and Holi, with appropriate gifts. This time, we visited 6 institutions with Dewali gifts ( diyas, xolitha, jolokiya bombs, phuljaris, chakris etc ), and, some clothes ( old, but in good condition ). The children of course were thrilled to see us. What made our day was that they said that they were expecting us with the gifts. We were happy that we did not fail their expectations --- and for that, we have to thank AFNA, and, friends of mine who give me a vehicle and a driver to deliver the items in these institutions ( because of the increasing traffic in Guwahati, I have started requesting my friends for a vehicle ). These gifts at the time of these festivals is a very big support for them --- more emotionally, than in value. I thank AFNA on behalf of all the beneficiaries. As a facilitator of the project, it has been an enriching experience for me. Therefore, I am grateful and thankful too. With best wishes, Kaushik das Atma Nirbhar - Ek Challenge atmanirb...@sify.com ___ assam mailing list assam@assamnet.org http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
Re: [Assam] [assam] In India, a Movement Frayed by self-interest
Dear Netters: The letter above by Manu Joseph to New Work Times' blog today exposes the Anna Team. He concludes: :Corruption is not the most serious problem in India, as the middle class makes it out to be. For one thing, it has killed fewer Indians than conflicts over religion and associated ideologies. Now, the two-page letter at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/27/world/asia/27iht-letter27.html?ref=world -bhuban ___ assam mailing list assam@assamnet.org http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
[Assam] Re;[assam] Criminal Charges for Gupta, McKinsey Head
Dear Netters: I am not middle class, yet when I hear about Indian people (to be precise, persons of Indian origin) in high positions come to limelight because of scandals, I feel very very bad. Here I reproduce the article above [subject] by Heather Timmons. -bhuban .October 26, 2011, 2:17 AM Criminal Charges for Gupta, Ex McKinsey Head By HEATHER TIMMONS United States prosecutors are expected to file criminal charges Wednesday against former McKinsey head Rajat K. Gupta, in connection with the Galleon Group insider trading case, The New York Times’ DealBook reports. Mr. Gupta, 62, “has been under investigation over whether he leaked corporate secrets to Raj Rajaratnam, the hedge fund manager who was sentenced this month to 11 years in prison for trading on illegal stock tips,” DealBook said. The charges would mean “a stunning fall from grace of a trusted adviser to political leaders and chief executives of the world’s most celebrated companies.” Mr. Gupta’s background and career success made him a hero to many businessmen in India, and he was widely respected in boardrooms around the world. He does not appear to have profited from any tips he may have passed along to Mr. Rajaratnam, DealBook says. Corporate executives and journalists alike have puzzled over his involvement with Galleon Group. Bloomberg News summed his background in this April story about the “mystery” surrounding Mr. Gupta: “The son of a man who fought for India’s independence, Gupta was orphaned as a teenager. He worked his way from lower middle class roots in Kolkata to Harvard Business School and joined McKinsey in 1973. His big leap came in 1994 when McKinsey held elections for a new leader. Gupta won over two other candidates, becoming the first non-U.S-born managing director of the firm.” The Galleon Group insider trading case has focused on a web of businessmen from South Asia including McKinsey executive Anil Kumar, who hails from Chennai, and Sri Lanka’s Mr. Rajaratna ___ assam mailing list assam@assamnet.org http://assamnet.org/mailman/listinfo/assam_assamnet.org
