[asterisk-users] Choppy/Jittery playback at beginning of calls

2006-07-19 Thread Al Lougher
Hi -I am using Asterisk Home 2.7 on a dedicated Linux server to make out going calls. For the most part everything works fine except that most of the voice calls on playback are jittery/choppy at the beginning of the call. After a couple of seconds of choppyness the rest of the message plays back fine. The voice files in question are recorded by the user (as a gsm file)by calling in to the asterisk box over a voicepulse connection. The voice file is then played back via dial plan to designated phone number. I have checked the recorded gsm file and it plays back fine so I know it's not in the recording of the file. I have also checked the format of the gsm file and it is indeed recorded as an 8kb gsm file. When monitoring the outgoing call on IAX2 I can see that it is using the gsm codec, and the iax2.conf file has disallow=all, codec=gsm so gsm should always be forced.I welcome any suggestions as I
cannot go to production with this current problem.Thanks. Al.

[asterisk-users] New Asterisk server crashes daily

2006-07-11 Thread Al Lougher
Hi -This is the first Linux server I have ever built with an installation of [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2.7. For development I have been running on VMWare on an XP box and sustained no crashes or reboots. After moving Asterisk to it's own server I am experiencing daily crashses (around 4am) and I'm not quite sure what the problem is, nor am I sure where exactly to look for logs of any errors prior and during the crash. During the crash there should be nothing running so I'm not sure why it crashes at this time (perhaps some system job that is running at this time?).My hardware is: AMD Athlon 64bit 3200 CPU, 1 gig memory, 100gb hd and a gigabit NIC card. The BIOS is set with defaults. Many thanks, Al.

I have 969mb total mem with 780mb allocated as swap. I also checked the messages log and the logs in the log/asterisk folder and there is nothing. Now, I did look in the cron log file and saw this at the time of the crash (crash was at 04:02).Jul 11 04:02:01 asterisk1 crond[3876]: (root) CMD (run-parts /etc/cron.daily)Jul 11 04:02:05 asterisk1 anacron[4317]: Updated timestamp for job `cron.daily' to 2006-07-11Jul 11 08:06:54 asterisk1 crond[2407]: (CRON) STARTUP (V5.0) I've no idea what could be causing the crash. I guess I'll check agian when it happens again tonight.Thanks.Roshan Sembacuttiaratchy [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Tue, Jul 11, 2006 at 06:23:05AM -0700, Al

somehow affecting you. Are you sure you have enough swap space configured? [asterisk-users] Help with router setup on new asterisk box

2006-07-08 Thread Al Lougher
Hi -I hope someone out there can help. I've just built a new asterisk server running [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2.7. and I'm having real difficulty setting up my cable modem for the internet connection. I have 1xcable modem and 1xnetgear router and 1xPCI nic card. I simply set the netgear up as 192.168.0.1 (which is default anyway) and plug the cable from the modem into the internet/input port on the router. Then I connect any port on the router to the PCI card on the asterisk box. Next I run netconfig and set the gateway to 192.168.0.1. Reboot everything, but I cannot ping any internet site. I can though ping the router.Any ideas? Thanks Al.

[Asterisk-Users] Asterisk home on VMWare time sync issues

2006-06-23 Thread Al Lougher
Hello - I am using AH on VMWARE. I have noticed that the date and time periodically loses sync with the server system time. Does anyone know why this would be, or where if I need to change a setting somewhere so it keeps time properly? Thanks! Alan.

[Asterisk-Users] Toll free number comaptible with Voicepulse

2006-06-22 Thread Al Lougher
Not sure if this is the right forum for this... I need a reliable but "cheap" toll free number to forward to my Voicepulse connect account for incoming calls. Any suggestions? Also, is there anything I need to do in the asterisk configs (IAX) for forwarding toll free for incoming calls? Thanks, Al.

[Asterisk-Users] AMD Machine Detect

2006-06-21 Thread Al Lougher
Hi -I have been developing an auto-dialling application similar to Voiceshot, Call-em-all etc. The one thing I am now struggling to get working is the ability to leave a message on an answering machine or cell phone voicemail. I am using app_amd.c and while it works well for some phones it is proving to be very difficult tweaking the settings to get it to work reliable enough to go to production. If anyone is using this successfully in a production environment I would really appreciate any posts of settings you are using. My settings are as follows:AMD(3500|1500|300|5000|120|50|5|256)Thank you. Alan.

RE: [Asterisk-Users] AMD Machine Detect

2006-06-21 Thread Al Lougher
Michael -Correct, I am attempting to do voice broadcasting. I did try background detect also but could never get that to work either. The only method I got to work was the one which came with the Teleyapper scripts (I based mine off this). In the Teleyapper instance it simply repeated the message twice, figuring that if it missed it the first time around then it would record it the second time. Even though this method was more reliable it is, in my eyes, not as professional as leaving the message only once and directly when the voicemail recording starts. How far did you get with background detect? When I'm in front of the server I'll reply with my settings but I'm interested to hear if you've had much success with it?Thanks, Al.Michael Collins [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:Al,Are you doing voice broadcasting – that is, delivering a pre-recorded message, possibly giving a live caller other options? Just curious. I’ve been working on a voice-broadcasting application myself and I’ve had mixed success with app_amd.c. It does work very well in some cases, but not so well in others.I’m currently experimenting with the dialplan app BackgroundDetect. For voice broadcasting apps, BackgroundDetect has the advantage of playing the message to the caller while simultaneously listening for a live caller or an answering machine. This gets rid of the annoying pause that the caller hears after saying, “Hello.” Here’s where I got the idea:
