[asterisk-users] Quiet recordings

2008-04-07 Thread Wayne Jensen
When I record calls they turn out really quiet. I can barely hear the
person on the other end. But when making the call, I can hear the
person on the other end just fine. I've played with txgain/rxgain and
that doesn't seem to help. TIA for help.

Re: [asterisk-users] Random Asterisk deaths

2007-04-25 Thread Wayne Jensen

Asterisk 1.2.13 (newest available in Debian Etch)
No VMs, nothing strange whatsoever about the setup.

In the box:
TE405P
X100P clone
AMD Athlon XP 2400+
512 MB RAM

In the logs I get a lot of
zt hook failed: Device or resource busy
and
Avoided initial deadlock for '0xXX', 10 retries!
but these happen all the time and don't increase or decrease in
frequency around the time that Asterisk dies.

Subject: [asterisk-users] Random Asterisk deaths

Every once in a while for no apparent reason, Asterisk has been dying
on me, dropping all calls in progress. There's nothing in the log
file or on the Asterisk console that indicates the reason. Some days
it doesn't happen at all. Other days it happens two or three times.

The problem began on Friday, but the last time anything was changed on
that box was at least a week before that.

Any suggestions on what to do/where to look to find out what's going
on and fix the problem?

Red alarm means that the hardware is not seeing the T1 signal coming in.
This most likely is a cable or wiring or perhaps a hardware problem.

I know that it's not wiring because it's never happened before in the
year and a half that we've been using it, and if I disconnect the
asterisk box and use it the same way we've been using it, the problem
goes away. same cabling, just unplugging the cable from the channel
bank and plugging it into the Digium card.

does this mean that the Digium card is bad? or is there something in
the configuration that could make it not see the T1 signal coming in?
I don't see how it would be, but is it possible that a bad cable
between the Digium card and the channel bank (channels 49-72 on the
card) could cause a red alarm on channels 1-24?

I've used the same Digium card in two different boxes and got the same
red alarms, so I doubt it's a problem with the computer it's in.

The red alarms only happen when there's a high volume of calls going
through, but it doesn't *always* happen when there's a high volume.

Plugging another T1 into the card seems to have cured it... strange.
When I was getting all the red alarms, I had one cable coming into the
card (channels 1-24) and two cables going out (channels 49-96),
leaving one slot (channels 25-48) empty. Once I plugged another T1
into that slot, the red alarms pretty much went away.

Why would that happen?

think are related (and probably all related to timing):

Feb 7 15:52:13 WARNING[8920] chan_zap.c: Ring/Off-hook in strange
state 6 on channel 4
Feb 7 15:52:21 WARNING[2524] chan_zap.c: zt hook failed: Device or
resource busy

We also get ghost calls from time to time.

Digium Wildcard TE405P

The telco told me that timing must be provided by us, but when I tried
that all hell broke loose.

Do you remember what was configured wrong? I've fought with the telco
quite a bit trying to get any useful information out of them for
configuration and I think it would be helpful if I could ask questions
as specific as possible. I really don't think these guys know what
they're talking about.

I know that the cables are fine because I've been using it for over a
year plugged into a channel bank with no problems, and it's only when
I'm running it through the Asterisk box that I have problems (T1s -
Asterisk - Channel banks). If I unplug the Asterisk box and go
straight into the channel banks again, the problem goes away.

had intermittent ghost calls--it appears that what is happening is a call
is made, the number being called is disconnected/busy/answering
machine/whatever, we hang up and the phone starts ringing. Answer the phone
and it's that same call still not hung up.

That problem hadn't happened very often so we didn't worry too much about
it. It was just a little annoying. We had pretty low traffic on the system
though and were mostly still using our old phone system.

On Monday I switched so that all of the phones are going through this
Asterisk system and Tuesday morning we started having major problems. Calls
were being dropped in the middle of the call. At times, everyone who was
trying to make a call would get a fast busy and Unable to create channel
of type 'Zap' showed up in the logs.

Yesterday we had various Red and Yellow alarms. Here are a few lines from
the logs:

Yesterday:
Jan 24 10:01:47 WARNING[12435] chan_zap.c: Detected alarm on channel 24: Red
Alarm
Jan 24 10:02:11 NOTICE[25813] app_dial.c: Unable to create channel of type

Jan 25 08:39:23 WARNING[6863] chan_zap.c: zt hook failed: Device or resource
busy
Jan 25 08:40:32 WARNING[932] chan_zap.c: Ring/Off-hook in strange state 6 on
channel 2

From console:
  == Spawn extension (phones-agent, 1510272, 2) exited non-zero on
'Zap/95-1'

Still having problems here. Today there was a red alarm on channels
1-24 (the T1 going out to the telco) and all calls were dropped. This
has also happened several other times. We've been using this T1
without the asterisk box for over a year now and this has never
happened before, and even now if I disconnect the asterisk box and run
the line straight into a channel bank it doesn't happen. I've googled
and googled and can't figure it out.

[asterisk-users] no lights on TE405P, but shows up in lspci, modules loaded

2007-01-31 Thread Wayne Jensen

I pulled a working TE405P from one box and put it in another box. I
compiled the zaptel modules, modprobe zaptel, modprobe wct4xxp, but no
lights on the card come on.

I do an lspci and the card shows up there.

I ran ztcfg -vv and got the error message Unable to open master device
'/dev/zap/ctl' so I followed the instructions in README.udev

the error message went away, but now when I run ztcfg I just get 0
channels configured

Thanks!

Do you see relevant entries under /sys/class/zaptel ?

Later on, do you have /dev/zap/ctl ?

If you run ztcfg later, do you still get the same error?
