If I have this is sip.conf :
[general]
disallow=all
allow=g729
allow=alaw
The prefered codecs set in my Grandstream phone is G729, alaw.
In the sip peer definition I have commented out 'disallow=' and
'allow='.
The prefered codecs set in the Zoiper softphone is alaw, gsm.
In the sip peer
I would also add the following :
sip.conf has :
[general]
disallow=all
allow=g729
allow=alaw
allow=gsm
And again the same in the sip peer definition :
disallow=all
allow=g729
allow=alaw
allow=gsm
sip debug shows :
[Mar 12 15:28:23] Found audio description format G729 for ID 18

How can I set the prefered codec between 2 calling parties ??
My Grandstream supports G729, alaw and gsm... in this order.
The Zoiper softphone has alaw and gsm as codecs... in that order.
Although there should be a matching codec found, my Grandstream can not
call the Zoiper softphone.

Hi List;
Is it possible to do configuration at the user context
to let him use codec1 if destination support and if
not, then use codec 2?
For example, to let user1 use codec g729 if he needs
to call user2 and user2 support g729, and if user2
does not support g729 then use g711 (alaw or ulaw),
what's the use of enabling multiple codecs for a peer?
can asterisk avoid trancoding when both phones are capable of a common codec enabled for them?
e.g. first priority codec = g729, 2nd= ulaw,,, if phone 1 calls another
ip phone capable of g729 to use it and when calling through Zap, can
Hi;
I'm trying to implement what is known by Cisco
Callmanager as regions: Specify that when phones from zone A call to
phones in zone B, use g729, but if they call to zone C, use g711. Any ideas on
how to achieve this?
Thanks!

Need some help understanding codec preferences:
I have 2 asterisk servers.
Server 1 sends calls to the PSTN and has allow=g729 allow=gsm and
allow=ulaw in iax.conf
Server 2 receives calls and routes them to server 1. It has the same
allow lines.
We receive calls from a phone co and route them
in #asterisk on Freenode)

hi
With a setup like this
SIP client - asterisk1 - IAX2 asterisk2 - PSTN
will asterisk1 and asterisk2 choose codec based on the codec used by
SIP client - asterisk, or only by preference in sip.conf/iax.conf?
