You are more than welcome to advertise your system in the
-biz list to your heart's content. I take great pride in making a
living in supporting and selling Asterisk based systems (No I don't want
to take a look at Cogoblue.com ;-) ) but I also respect the fact that
the owners of the list server, the persons that have taken the time to
configure and maintain not only Asterisk but this list server as well,
have made it a point to segment the lists.

I respectfully ask that you follow the list etiquette and
refrain for using the -users list for commercial pitches and plugs to
your product.

Thank you for your understanding and I hope to see you in

But if are setting up multiple boxes, you should look at cogoblue.com

Hey Alex,

Take a chill pill dude - he was suggesting it in reply as a solution to
someone else's problem.

If I ask a question (eg an Outlook dialer) and someone replies with
Snapanumber then that's an appropriate response.

Yes I've posted about Mexuar last year when I worked for them but only
in reply to someone asking a question about click to call.

This may not be an appropriate place to market/advertise commercial
products but it's not like you cant mention a single product by name.

Especially when it was so obvious this was a solution to the guys
question.

Im sorry but I dont think he answered the users question by trying to hawk

even I find grave disdain for people doing this on the non-commercial lists.
the guy was asking for a simple script that was at one
time available, not a full blow commercial package that does everything plus
what he needed.

I felt like the cogoblue stuff is out of place and off topic, so I agree
that it should not be arbitrarily posted as a solution to any question
that it might seem to somehow solve.

However, I do not take exception to the IBM server post, even though
strict adherence to the rules would probably make it illegal as well.

There is an inherent difference between the two. The cogoblue post was
made by a paid salesman seeking personal profit indirectly through his
company. The server link, on the other hand was marked as OT, it was
not posted as a solution to someone's problem, and the poster most
likely does not seek to profit personally from the post. Many people in
the Asterisk community are on the lookout for inexpensive hardware with
enough power to run a decent sized system. So the inherent difference
comes down to one post being potentially helpful and the other not being
potentially helpful. There wasn't even any obvious mention in cogoblue
post that it was, in fact, a commercial product. If most of us weren't
familiar with the product already because of the previous over-posting,
then one could be slightly misled by the post.

And to make matters worse, it triggered a tangent that has completely
derailed the OP's thread and taken all focus away from the OP's original
question.

Just my two sense,
Brent

You may have a point although I was more doing a favor or looking
out rather than trying to push my wares on someone where they did not
fit.

I guess I would say it is different because of intent and
presentation. I thought about posting on the biz list but then
thought it would better serve many Asterisk users.

I certainly was clear in the title that it was a server that cost $199
even if someone did not know that OT was short for Off Topic

If anyone has any real objection to my occasional postings of this
nature on the users list, then I will certainly keep them to myself.
It takes more effort to post something that may be helpful than it
does to remain silent.

I think most people agree (or a least don't mind too much) if a commercial
product is offered as a possible solution to an OP's query, assuming it is in
fact, within context.

I'll leave it to others on the list to decide if John Signorello's post was
appropriate or not, given the context of the OP's original query, but if
someone
posts a query directly related to a product I have to offer, I fully intend to
let them know about it in as least intrusive manner as I can.

Assuming a person's product is directly within context, not offering it as
possible solution could be a disservice to the OP and list in general.

Just a thought...

2008-04-18 Thread Alexander Lopez
My post was made b/c John Signorello has done this before and I thought
that a friendly reminder of the proper places to post his 'offers'
should be posted.

This is the one that came to mind when I composed the email reply:

Did you not provide a link to a COMMERICAL entity?

Wasn't your a post a unsolicited post, that is, not in response to
a
  question???

There seems to be two standards here.

The fact that you do not work for them is immaterial.

If your argument is no commercial reference at all, then how do you
  explain your post?

I felt like the cogoblue stuff is out of place and off topic, so I
agree
that it should not be arbitrarily posted as a solution to any
question
that it might seem to somehow solve.

However, I do not take exception to the IBM server post, even though
strict adherence to the rules would probably make it illegal as
well.

I think most people agree (or a least don't mind too much) if a
commercial
product is offered as a possible solution to an OP's query, assuming
it is
 in
 fact, within context.

I'll leave it to others on the list to decide if John Signorello's
post
 was
appropriate or not, given the context of the OP's original query, but
if
 someone
posts a query directly related to a product I have to offer, I fully
 intend to
let them know about it in as least intrusive manner as I can.

Assuming a person's product is directly within context, not offering
it as
possible solution could be a disservice to the OP and list in general.

 Just a thought...

 Steve,

-1 to not posting stuff like that anymore.

I think the guys in the office here have already picked up a couple of these
machines here collectively to play. They are a very good deal.

Is the post a double standard? Possibly, but it is what it is, and I personally
prefer to see it rather than not see it.

So, sorry for sparking this big war. Does anyone happen to remember that
script? :)

I just need it for reverse dialplan graphing, no other utilities required :)

Thanks,
