Actuallt right now i am using Asterisk 1.2 on my LAN environment.
i am able to call all my extension very nicely.

maybe you should try adding this to your voicemail configuration.
mailcmd=/usr/sbin/sendmail -t
or whereever your sendmail is located.
then your mails should be send to the wanted adress.
