On 3 other servers I have installed, I have never had this problem.

What can be the issue ??

Kind regards,

Shouldn't the config file be called res_config_mysql.conf and not
res_mysql.conf in 1.8?

Well, this solved my problem !!

Still don't know why other 1.8-servers do not give this error...

Thanks !

Jonas.

Now I see: you try to use the wrong config file - try
/etc/asterisk/res_config_mysql.conf instead.

Did you make a "reload"?

Yes, I reloaded and restarted several times.

Did you try from shell:
mysql -u myuser -pmysecret AsteriskHosted

Yes, works perfect to connect via commandline.

Only Asterisk does not see the database and I really don't know
  why.

No hints in debug and verbose log either...

On my 3 other Asterisk 1.8 servers there is no problem with the file
res_mysql.conf and no problem with connection to the database.
