Telnet uses TCP, Asterisk's SIP is UDP Wojtek - Original Message - From: John Klimek [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: asterisk-users@lists.digium.com Sent: Monday, June 12, 2006 10:42 PM Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Unable to connect to Asterisk? (simple[?] question) I'm trying to setup Asterisk on my Linksys WRT54G router and it appears to startup successfully (no errors) and it says it is listening on 0.0.0.0 port 5060, but I am unable to connect to it. I've tried telnet localhost 5060 but it just says connection refused. I've also tried connecting from another machine on my network (eg. telnet 192.168.0.1 5060) but it also says connection refused. Finally, I've tried changing the bound address in sip.conf to 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.0.1 but I am still unable to connect using all the methods mentioned above. What else can be the problem? Can I have some sort of iptables problem? ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- Asterisk-Users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users ___ --Bandwidth and Colocation provided by Easynews.com -- Asterisk-Users mailing list To UNSUBSCRIBE or update options visit: http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

SIP is a UDP protocol, and telnet is TCP. You can't test it like that. Have you tried connecting with a SIP client? Re: [Asterisk-Users] Unable to connect to Asterisk? (simple[?] question)
Ahhh, that would explain it. I setup my firewall (eg. Shorewall) to allow incoming TCP connections to port 5060. I've changed it to UDP port 5060 and it works great! (well, Asterisk says Forbidden, but that's just a simple config problem I'm sure) Which other ports do I need to forward/open to get Asterisk working properly? I'm guessing I only need port 5060 open to my local network... Do I need any ports open for connections from the internet? RE: [Asterisk-Users] Unable to connect to Asterisk
Check manager.conf and manager.custom.conf (installed by amp) for access lists which may be preventing you from reaching it. -Original Message- From: Nitesh Divecha [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, January 09, 2006 2:45 PM To: Asterisk Users Mailing List - Non-Commercial Discussion Subject: [Asterisk-Users] Unable to connect to Asterisk Hello All Everything was working OK, and decided to install AMP 1.10.010... and problem started. AMP took control of Asterisk... For some odd reasons I can not connect to Asterisk CLI any more. I get the following error: - [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ sudo /usr/sbin/asterisk -r Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk.ctl exist?) [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ But if I check the process, I do see Asterisk is running. I am running Asterisk 1.2 Any ideas? Thanking in advance...
