Re: [asterisk-users] unsubscribe
Here's how to unsubscribe: First, ask your Internet Provider to mail you an Unsubscribing Kit. Then follow these directions. The kit will most likely be the standard no-fault type. Depending on requirements, System A and/or System B can be used. When operating System A, depress lever and a plastic dalkron unsubscriber will be dispensed through the slot immediately underneath. When you have fastened the adhesive lip, attach connection marked by the large X outlet hose. Twist the silver-coloured ring one inch below the connection point until you feel it lock. The kit is now ready for use. The Cin-Eliminator is activated by the small switch on the lip. When securing, twist the ring back to its initial condition, so that the two orange lines meet. Disconnect. Place the dalkron unsubscriber in the vacuum receptacle to the rear. Activate by pressing the blue button. The controls for System B are located on the opposite side. The red release switch places the Cin-Eliminator into position; it can be adjusted manually up or down by pressing the blue manual release button. The opening is self-adjusting. To secure after use, press the green button, which simultaneously activates the evaporator and returns the Cin-Eliminator to its storage position. You may log off if the green exit light is on over the evaporator. If the red light is illuminated, one of the Cin-Eliminator requirements has not been properly implemented. Press the List Guy call button on the right of the evaporator. He will secure all facilities from his control panel. To use the Auto-Unsub, first undress and place all your clothes in the clothes rack. Put on the velcro slippers located in the cabinet immediately below. Enter the shower, taking the entire kit with you. On the control panel to your upper right upon entering you will see a Shower seal button. Press to activate. A green light will then be illuminated immediately below. On the intensity knob, select the desired setting. Now depress the Auto-Unsub activation lever. Bathe normally. The Auto-Unsub will automatically go off after three minutes unless you activate the Manual off override switch by flipping it up. When you are ready to leave, press the blue Shower seal release button. The door will open and you may leave. Please remove the velcro slippers and place them in their container. If you prefer the ultrasonic log-off mode, press the indicated blue button. When the twin panels open, pull forward by rings A B. The knob to the left, just below the blue light, has three settings, low, medium or high. For normal use, the medium setting is suggested. After these settings have been made, you can activate the device by switching to the ON position the clearly marked red switch. If during the unsubscribing operation you wish to change the settings, place the manual off override switch in the OFF position. You may now make the change and repeat the cycle. When the green exit light goes on, you may log off and have lunch. Please close the door behind you. We've got some Snom 320s with Asterisk 1.2.9.1 (I believe). All was well (with a previous release), but the phones started to get real choppy. We are also running a softphone at this location and it was fine. The SIP qualify was returning ping times anywhere from 20 to 70 ms over a sparsely used LAN. Command prompt (ICMP) pings were under 1 ms. No amount of different Asterisk versions or phone firmware revisions seems to solve this. All was well, then (as far as we know) without changes, it crapped out. Any ideas? We always try to use phones supporting G.729, anything else is just gravy. If you can use but cisco ata 186 (2 channels) can work with only single channel, when using g729 codec ... and can use both channels with g723. reinvites then you have no need for the G.729 unless you use the IVR, MOH, etc. features of * where it is dishing out audio. Goto http://www.packetizer.com/iptel/bandcalc.html to get the real scoop. IMO ILBC beats G.729 in terms of quality, especially in environments where packet loss can occur. It's about the same computationally- speaking but it's also royalty-free. GSM is my second choice but it eats quite a bit more bandwidth in comparsion. That packetizer link has no comparisons with any OSS codecs, which is unfortunate because it seems to pass itself off as an authoritative source on bandwidth use in IP telephony. I am not trying to start a codec war or find out which is the best protocol. What I need to know is when I buy a Grandstream phone, a Cisco phone, a Sippura adaptor or any other hard phone, what codec is usually supported by all of them. All of them obviously support G.711 but that is not the best for use when connecting through the Internet. RE: [Asterisk-Users] unsubscribe
I know you'll never entirely be rid of these types of requests on any list, but some quick usability testing might help reduce the total number of them. :) Some observations: - To a user who is unfamiliar with listserv software (or one who is used to older ones that take commands on the subject line) the list footer doesn't mean much. Might be quickly assumed to be an archive search, etc. - The page itself is slightly confusing, given these words as the section header where one would modify their subscription: Asterisk-Users Subscribers The subscribers list is only available to the list administrator. While I'm sure most experienced users get the fact that the next box underneath is *not* only for administrators... it's not particularly clear, particulary for a new listserv user. A suggestion: Other lists I participate in have something more descriptive such as, To Unsubscribe ... (short instructions). Seems to work fairly well. This points out another really bad thing about HTML email. At least some of the mail clients are sending proper multipart messages, but the mailing list software is assuming plain text and appends the footer at the end without regard for where either part are and how they are displayed. This leaves the mailing list footer in limbo and not attached to either part. So the only excuse for this person not seeing this footer is due to the HTML emails he was sending. -- Steven Critchfield [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users

Unfortunately, I don't have the spare equipment, either computers or telephony hardware to build on other dist's. My other Linux dists are on older and more challenged hardware. I used to run a lot Linux variants, but am down to only 6 now. Plus the BSD's and commercial unixes keep me busy. I don't see why it should be a problem, it's a server, no gui needed so something that builds on one Linux dist, should build, trivially on the others. Google is your friend if you like to use the rpm's, but can't find them on your mandrake CD's. That goes for any other dist. e.g. filename mandrake rpm will give you a decent list to download the relevent missing rpm. I can't find any other options for the individual ports. As for the timing and configuration of NI, I have tried NI: Timing Mode as both DTE and NI (my only choices) Where else should I be checking? Good question.. Does * support overlap dialing with SIP? I have a feeling it does, I do vaguely remember getting an Address Incomplete response when not dialing enough digits. I guess all you have to do is set your Cisco phone for overlap dialing. Hopefully there is an option for it in is config. Even if Asterisk does the overlap stuff defined in RFC 3578, I seriously doubt you'll see the Cisco phones (or any hardware phones, for that matter) doing it. The overlap stuff is really designed for gateways from the PSTN, not end terminals. That said, there's nothing that would *prevent* implementing it in end devices. I note that it would cause an awful lot of signaling traffic if you did so, though. As a side note, I'll point out that the Pingtel phones let you provision client-side digitmaps. Based on asterisk-like pattern matching, you get to say how long a digit string should be matched, and the phone will automatically dial when it matches (no need to hit send!). You can even make different patterns go different places, like: 972xxx : sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 214xxx : sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 489xxx : sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] 1xx : sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (To clarify: Dallas has three local area codes and 10 digit local dialing) /a ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users _ MSN 8: Get 6 months for $9.95/month. http://join.msn.com/?page=dept/dialup ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users -- Steven Critchfield [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Asterisk-Users mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.digium.com/mailman/listinfo/asterisk-users
