Interesting behavior trying to upgrade.. It tells me Not enough
free space for new firmware on the RUNNIX partition. but If look at
the directory I have nothing else but the previous version and my
filesystem shows 93% full? Of course there will not be any room for

You deleted files while they were still open... which means that the directory
entries are gone, but the sectors used by the files haven't been reclaimed.
The proper way to manually upgrade is this:
% mount -o remount,rw /oldroot/cdrom
% scp -rp m...@builder:astlinux-foo/build_i586/runfs/os
