Hi.
Some time ago I was not able to compile CVS version of auctex.
auctex compilation was stopped at 'tex-jp.el':
tex-jp.el:35:1:Error: Invalid read syntax: ")"
make: *** [lisp] Error 1
But seems that the source of error in tex.el. I found extra close
bracket in 'TeX-view-program-list'. I attach

Works fine in both cases here: Archlinux, x86_64, emacs-bzr, auctex-cvs (= 11.86
almost), TeX Live 2011.

IMHO, this package is simply not supported by preview-latex. Note,
Please, reply also in ML!

I attach patch in case I'm right in understanding the cause of trouble.
P.S. I don't remember if I'm subscribed to auctex-devel ML, so Cc to
auctex ML too.

Everyone was born right-handed. Onl
work
fine. I suspect that you "overconfigured" your Emacs and AUCTeX. Try from
bare minimal, without explicitly setting any TeX variables, then set them with
Custom interface and set only '-style-private' (and, may be, '-auto-private').

P.S. Besides this there are many 'Warning's about obsoletenes of
'easy-menu-{add,remove}' suggesting to use 'ignore' instead. I don't
understand them but right now it doesn't prevent compilatio

AUCTeX from git repository couldn't be (byte-) compiled without that change
(I'm using Emacs 28.0.50 compiled from git source). The change is trivial but
I could provide a patch.

Sectioning commands (standard ones) are expections. See attached
example. So, in general in LaTeX it is possible to define macros and
environments with the same name.
