Re: [Audacity-translation] Wrong GERMAN translation in EFFEKTE TONHÖHE ÄNDERN

2020-05-28 Thread Paul Licameli
Joachim, please write me directly with a list of all these things and any
similar ones you find.

I've been aware of the problem of having translatable strings for very
small words out of context which then reappear in different context. It's
only in this coming release that we have the technical means to
disambiguate as needed with different translations. I am pleased to see
these problems fixed now.

I even wrote a script to discover our duplicated translatable strings.
Attached is the output. Probably not every one of these is problematic.
But you might examine this list more closely and tell me which ones are.

I wouldn't have guessed, for instance, that "Interface" is a problem.
Thanks for telling me otherwise.

I found a wrong translation in AUDACITY-MENÜ-EFFEKT-TONHÖHE ÄNDERN

There is an english "from ... * to*... Hz" which is translated as "von
 ... *bis* ... Hz":

... but in this context it must be translated to...

 "von ... * auf*... Hz"

 or better:

"ändern von ... * auf*... Hz"

The given "von...bis" is a sometimes possible translation for
"from...to", but in this context it changes the sense of the sentence. This
german "from..bis" means something like "from... until...", but the meaning
should be more like a "from... towards...". In this cases Germans use
 "von...auf..."

 example:

*"I change the frequency from 440 to 450Hz"*
 * "Ich ändere die Frequenz von 440 auf 450Hz"*

 best regards
 peter

2020-05-28 Thread Joachim Huffer
Hello Peter,
thanks for letting me know. I will fix this for the next Audacity release.
Already found a few other inaccuracies.
