No, I was talking about the idea of writing a custom platform ourselves, which someone else proposed earlier in this thread.

Re: what should we do if the forum, Whent down with out any warning?
I'm opposed to using a custom platform no one else uses, because it further isolates our community from the rest of the web. hEre at least we get the occasional sighted developer showing up, often because someone else
Re: Any approachable UEB Braille character lists?
For the record, the dollar sign is the same as it was in earlier Braille code, dot 4, dot 2-3-4.I endorse the idea of typing things on a keyboard if you can, which helps a lot with weirder symbols you might not often see otherwise.

@15, I take back my earlier post. I am running into the same weird behavior you describe. It's definitely worth reporting this issue.

At #6,My power-off slider works fine. The timing is displayed immediately to the left of the slider. There is no save button because the setting takes effect immediately.

Re: Software to OCR PDF's
I'd definitely recommend Finereader if your employer is willing to spring for it, it's fast and quite accurate.I'm not sure if it's able to tag PDF, but free services such as Robobraille are able to do so. I like RoboBraille in particular because it does a decent
Re: Sell me arch
I think the best way to experience Linux at first is to create a virtual machine on, say, a Windows host, which will let you install the system and not have to deal with the vagaries of physical hardware. This holds true for Arch as well as any other bistro.Unrelated to
Re: Sell me arch
Agreed.Arch is a good bistro for configuring things by hand, and it's fairly easy to package software which isn't available for it already, if you feel so inclined. It's just smooth, well-documented, and designed to be simple and get out of your way for the most part.
Re: Scrolling in an ssh terminal?
I'm pretty sure that you can scroll with shift+page-up and shift+page-down, or similar shortcuts. Really though, you're better off redirecting output to a file or a pager or something else rather than trying to read it backwards, especially if it's several

Re: VOCR: An amazing plugin for Voiceover on the Mac
I'd love to see this paired with a way to do Golden Cursor-style bookmarking of screen positions. That would help a lot with games which aren't otherwise playable.

Re: What's the name of the online voting system for disabled people (USA)?
I've seen this demo before, and used a version of this system a few times. I don't remember the name. Unfortunately, I agree that generally it requires sighted help for key parts, unless you're able to print and
Re: From The Verge: Mac OS 8 is now an app you can download and install
I was wondering about this myself. Surely there were ways to use Outspoken on machines like powerbooks and such which didn't necessarily have a full keypad?I've been wondering where I can get a manual for this too.
Re: Happy Windows 95 25th anniversary
I used Windows 95 briefly, when I got my first computer. I didn't realize that was what it was, because my folks put Omni1000 (Not Kurzweil, that came later) on it. The "jungle," sound scheme always scared me a little bit, especially one of the little

I saw this mentioned on another site earlier and grabbed it. I can't figure out how to get outspoken running, and am not sure if it has sound support in any case. It's a pretty cool project, I just wish I could find

Re: Trying to get a book to read on IBooks.
I use iBOoks every day, but it is occasionally frustrating with some books which have either specialized formatting or are just scanned images of text. It is possible the latter is what you have. Can you give us the book title and we can try to
