I'm actually fairly slick with regard to computer things, at least most of the time, but I so rarely have to tweak folder options that I was at a bit of a loss. I know it was a windows update thing and not my computer freaking out

That's the new feature of windows 10 1903 itself, not your computer's fault, though. Like others said, if you know how to sort stuff, you'll know the solutions.

Open the downloads folder.Press Alt+V to go to the view tab on the ribbon.Tab until you get to the group by menu.Press space to activate it, and choose none.The folder should once again be sorted alphabetically instead of by when things were

What you want to do is set the sort by submenu to name and set the group by submenu to (none). That should fix your problem. Also another item should be checked in sort by submenu and that is "ascending"
