A speech synthesizer is a totally different device. A pci card is a single-channel audio interface capable of producing speech. The interfaces require a tsr usually shipped on a diskette with the package in order to interface to the machine

Thanks for the help. Since their speech synthesis devices do they have their own audio jacks, are they able to be connected to a soundblaster so I can use both at the same time?

Some are pci cards, while some are serials. Pci cards are not commonly used in laptop machines where ou had pcmcia cards and serial options. Dectalk Express is a serial device.

@2 Are these ad-in cards, like how PCI-E works, or are they serial devices? Are they difficult to set up?I remember Freedom Scientific having all the jaws version on their website, from DOS to current, like 6 years ago, when I checked recently

Yo!!! Alright, I'll get straight to the point. If I wanna get an old machine and turn it into a retro gaming rig, what will I need to use DOS? I know they have screen readers on DOS but I understand it doesn't work the same way that regular Windows
