The bluetooth add-on doesn't work for me and never did and that on bluetooth headphones or speakers.Same with 2 laptops of mine and a guy I usualy help with his stuff, didn't work on his Dell either.

@17 thanks, I was able to download it on my phone last night as I needed to translate the page in the first place using chrome on android. I was also able to move the file over to my pc using the cable.

new NVDA version was released today. and this was in the changelog.NVDA now keeps the audio device open improving performance on some sound cards (#5172, #10721)

Oh, duh. Didn't even think to look in the folder--figured it was generating its own audio.I replaced the wave with my own, and now it works.

The app Ironcross posted is what I have been using. Generally I prefer an app over an addon that could potentially become incompatible more often, though the addon has an advantage that it will still allow you to use the standbye
