hi,you said you used windows 7. If you suspect malware, I would recommend running combofix. It gets rid of at least 90% of all malware. This program runs in a command prompt window. You shouldn't do anything with your computer

the main place to check is in hkcu and hklm, both, software, microsoft, windows, CurrentVersion, run; I will agree that this is weird beyond belief... could it be something you installed, but check those run keys, also if you can, download

In a way, you are correct, however, you could only do damage if you delete or edit those files. All turning off that setting does is enable display of files with the system atribute set in the gui. Alternatively, you could compair the list of

Hi,Turning off hide protected operating system files is a very dangerous idea. You should only do this if you explicitly need to do so; it gives someone who is unauthorized to have access to all OS files, something which I would not recommend

that's screwy... All I can say is that .ICO are icon files for like the images above the text on the desktop so... for all you know all your files could be replaced with icons of a butt crack or something
