There's a few scripts i've developed that could probably help with point and click adventure games. A good place to start would be TTS for dialog, descriptions, etc., maybe audio cue's with mouse based proximity in stereo/HRTF, or you could just use keyboard shortcuts to snap between points of interest.You could also take a look at some of the [Sonifier] filtering and mouse scripts i've written in python based on [Peter Meijers Image to Sound] algorithms (CC 4.0 attribution). They could potentially be useful for navigating inverted depthmap renders of 2D scenes and such.Also welcome to the community, heh.

The game just froze when I asked the professor who he was after getting his quest. These incidents don't seem to have a common denominator and it's kinda annoying that I can't pinpoint it. I'm running the game on Windows 7 64bit with 4gb of RAM if that helps at all.

I haven't played the Japanese games much though.Some people might find A Heros Call short I don't know, but there are a lot of reasons to play the game over and over again. there are a ton of strategies you can try out, and the story takes different directions based on your choices.@Diegogaribay: I don't know if you got someones comment about where to find the saved games, but they are in Data for rpg, gamesaves.@fredd: Yes, I know you asked for security, but do you really think people spend five years on developing a game, and then put a nasty virus in it?@liamkembleyoung: You might check out my article in the articles room regarding using a virtual machine for gaming on a Mac. Please note: I don't remember if I have mentioned this in the article, but do not give the virtual machine more than 4 gb of ram. If you do, it'll start to lag badly. I have no idea on why.

I'm afraid I  still do not agree msucial musical professor, indeed if you google A dark  room, you will see the amount of awards and credit it has got as! a text game from not just the accessible gaming community, but also from many sighted gamers who are enjoying it despite the lack of sound or graphics. I'm afraid you misunderstood my point if you believe it's simply that "I don't like sound" I love sound in games, something like swamp, or a hero's call would be nothing without sound, and this year particularly we've seen some wonderful examples of sound using games like dear heart for instance. it's just that textual games do not need sound, anymore than a good book needs sound. Indeed that's a good comparison. I love audiodramas and I love films, but I would not want all! the books I read to be dramatised. This is I think just an area where you and I will not agree since you are one of those people who finds sound %100 necessary for your enjoyment of a game, hence why something like A dark room might not be your cup of tea.

Hi.Ah dark, I think I know what your problem here is.You probably just touch the home button and you switch to one handed mode if you tap the button or rather, the sensor part of the screen. Even though it is no real button anymore, imagine it still is one and press it like a button, the taptic engine will also give you feedback on if you pressed correctly.I know, it might look a bit odd at first, but you'll come to gripps with it.Greetings Moritz.

If not, hopefully you don't do what I did and spend way too much time looking for the last one, which in my case was because I decided to explore the tunnels.All 4 camps are on the subterranean road, note the spot where it branches off, there are 2 in each branch. There is honestly not a major difference physically about the 8.@Dark:I had an iPhone 6 and upgraded to a 7 in 2016. It did take a little while getting used to the new home button. But I agree with the above post. You should not be having this much trouble adjusting.If you do not have issues with motor skills, it really makes me wonder if something is wrong with the phone itself. But you should try to keep using it for a while longer. Maybe you will adjust to it after you’ve practiced for a few days...

New to accessibility

Hi everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself - I'm a game developer that's looking to add accessibility features to my games, and the games I port to mobile devices for other companies. I mostly work in the adventure and RPG genres. Right now I'm in the research phase, looking at adapting games built with Adventure Game Studio to improve their accessibility. I was in battle both times it happened. The first time I got in battle as soon as I stepped onto the Bridge, and didn't even get a chance to fight first. The second time I had just killed my last enemy, a raven, and it's defeat sound was playing over and over and over but the game wasn't responding. It's not the same sound every time, that much I know.My biggest problem with navigating is that when I'm in a room and snap to interactive things, I lose track of the door/the entrance I came in by and spend a minute or two running into walls trying to find my way out.

Ah, he was weighed down a little more than the rest, and that did seem to get him back. I gave him a piece of armor that had a better armor rating, and was lighter than whatever he had in that slot, and I took that big bow away and gave him back his bow. The different in weapon rating wasn't that much higher, and he's plenty powerful with it when he uses his own bow, so I'd rather like to see him get more shots landing on target than to say, get 1/5 but that 1 is a very powerful hit. I can sacrifice power for damage over time, which will be greater because he's hitting more accurately.

Hmm. Guess that lever wasn't supposed to be puled quite yet... though I don't know what he meant by a distraction. Really curious to know what I missed... bug report though, if this does happen, talking to Frida after the quest brings up an error saying unable to find unhappy menu state, then the game crashes.

@The Imaginatrix #462: Can you tell what sound is being played over and over before the game crashes? Where were you/what were you doing when it crashed? These are the sorts of details we need to try and track these bugs down. Also, bear in mind that Liam has spent more time with the game than you, both learning the maps and getting accustomed to the navigation system. I suspect that the longer you play, the more comfortable you'll become with it, as well.@BryanP #463: Yep, can't remember how much offhand but it's a fair bit.@Defender #467: You capped out a warrior and never learned Finesse or Flurry? I'm honestly not sure how that could happen unless there's a bug in the skill learning logic. What skills does your warrior know? Maybe send this info to the support[at]outofsightgames.com to avoid spoilers and whatnot...I'd like to ensure this isn't bugged.EDIT: Also, we may have figured out a fix for the updater and Windows permissions. Trajectory, what enemies you encounter are dependent on your level. It's fairly dynamic so there are no easy cutoff points to direct you to. I believe we did receive the email and it's on the list of things to look at to try to figure out what's up. I attached a bad save file.I'm glad to know the wolf dens are bugged and that's not just how they're supposed to work.Spoilers!As for laying down the law, I stand in part corrected; at one camp sight Matthiasspoke of how he felt it represented his failure to defend the forest. I don't know if that was related to the quest or if it would have triggered had I not had that quest active.The game has not given me any other indications of progress any other time I've visited one of those areas.Also, can we get some insite into what the triggers for enemy upgrades are?I have the mines and forest completed as far as the main quest is concerned. I have 12 other quests completed, and 13 others on the go. My chars are all between level 20 and 23. I feel underleveled, but I can't access any of the weeker enemies that would be more suited to grinding.

Need Help Finding something in the Mine Quest in A Hero's Call

Spoilers in this post!I was wondering if someone could help me out and list where all of the Goblin Chieftain Keys are?  I've looked in every campsite, even backtracked to the one above the trap door and can't find the fourth key anywhere, and I've only battled 3 Goblin Chieftains.  So I'm wondering if I have to hunt around in the tents to find the fourth key, instead of hunt for a boss battle?  Thanks!Spoilers end here

but like i say orko, this is a grate game no doubt.  i don't dismiss it because of what i prefer and when passing time u wouldn't believe how far i may get in to it so to speak.  but with as much as we already have to have imaginations for, for me, it can get abit old so to speak.  it doesn't mean i lack imagination nore does it mean anyone else does.  if i was completely closed minded to the idea, then u could claim what u could show.   like when i said that i could send this to others, and they would dismiss quickly, that could be considered lack of imagination persay witch if again i were closed minded, then that could be shown no doubt.  in your or others opinions.  i just feel that just because we are blind or VIP and we get or play text based games, doesn't mean that we can't have options for sounds in these games especially when u take in to account how awesome discriptions are and what you're doing in the game or games.  but i don't close my mind to it because i have several or afew web based titles that i take with me on the go that are text based.  yes i wish for sound, but, i still play them.  cause they are quite interesting and after sometime u really can get in to them persay.  but i'm aso about hearing my actions so to speak.  it just has me feel more alive and in to the game or games.  if u say my imagination lacks in your OP, then so be it.  but its just me.  but i respect your OP and thoughts on the subject.  as well as yours too dark.

If you want to delete your saves, just go in the data for rpg folder, Under saved games delete the saves you don't want, those are .sav files.Also, if you experience this file permission issue after updating, I posted a fix for Windows 10 users on post 374. I say this because I saw another post regarding this issue. Out of Sight Games recommend putting that folder Under documents, but I don't like to put stuff there because it is a low capacity SSD drive, so I prefer to put it on my larger drive and although the permission issues will probably happen again next time I'll update, the fix is not very long to do.

fair enough, alot of those games haven't been optimised for people not using ascii so I need to look into that.Not sure about the ruins though, Its not a bad idea but I don't want to get too far away from the Kingdom management sim for it to become a first person rpg like the wastes, and if I did add the exploration with scary things it's hard when you don't have HP, XP, a weapon or any kind of combat skills for your character, so the system doesn't work too well

I really wish that the warrior's skills didn't cap out so early...That's pretty much the only main complaint I have so far about how the game works mechanics wise. Yeah, their are allot of skills, but it also seems like you usually end the game by like level 45 or so, and that's just way too many levels not to have anything interesting and new.I mean their are no unarmed moves, either as a skill branch or as a compliment to armed fighting, kicks, leg sweeps, punches and such, but I think I've heard some other enemies doing it, least it sounds like it, but I suppose that could be a bludgeon...No intimidation moves or armor piercing attacks either.I also never got finesse or flurry, and those would have been really cool.That said though, the skills that do exist are really awesome and well thought out.Actually I guess I do find the fact that you can't turn 360 degrees without a mouse, and can't quickly scan to the left and right with radar annoying too.I seriously doubt that any of this will be added to the game at this point though, sadly, but who knows, at least allot of the sounds are their from other enemies right?At least I can hope, and it's not as if the other classes don't provide variety...

well its not saying people lack imagination but people do have right to how they feel for games the like playing.  there are text based games that are deep as this and they do have sound.  i have quite a grate imagination but just because of what i prefer doesn't mean i lack it either.   i just feel that we all like games but, just because its text based doesn't mean it has to always be silent.  as stated, we are in a new time frame now.

ah okay, i was a bit irritated because after choosing marathon mode, there were several numbers shown and I don't know what to do with them. But in general, an option to explain would be cool, similar to the how to play option in sudden dead. Similar options could be made for games like Dragon, Knight and vench or twelve as well and others wich may lack such an option. Would be great if someone wants a bit of info how those work before playing. And another suggestion, it would be cool if ruins could be entered and explored as well. There could be even in cursed ruins nasty and scary things lurking behind or mysterious things and the like. Ruins could be exciting i think.

I sent you a email via the forum the other day. It mustn't have made it to you. I'll send you a PM. I can only script using the jaws language. If you have a copy of jaws, you could try my guitar rig scripts if you like. They'll allow you to navigate the rack to check what components are present and adjust their controls, go to the components window and build a custom rack, add or swap out components, bypass or delete components, turn on/off right left channels, hi q, adjust input and output, and search presets and access the presets list. I think you mentioned being able to access the parameters, but when I try to do that in Sonar or Reaper, I just get a massive list of stuff saying p001, p002, or something. I'm sure parameters in older versions of GR5  were labelled properly.

Wooly Rhinos in a den? Too funny. That's what you get with all the procedurally generated stuff. And that's my dilemma. You've got good ideas there and I've noted them down. My choice is to create, say, a "dark fey grove" generation routine and have them generate as a type of random feature. Or to custom craft a specific "dark fey grove" in one location. Generation is good because you will get them all over and are more likely to run across one. But it's bad in the sense that once you've seen one, you've seen them all. Even if I make them varied there will be still be a certain "sameness". The alternative of hand crafting is great because I can do very detailed and custom content that tells a real story. The downside is that I can only put it in one location and have to put in signs and rumors pointing to it so that people can discover it. It's not always easy to work out which direction I should put the effort into.Castles. So, the best thing is to first find a location. Somewhere that you either note the longitude and latitude of, or that's a known distance from a known landmark. Once you have picked a spot, use the "entry" land deed. That will prompt you to confirm, and WOOSH you should have a one room castle.To expand, enter your castle. Pick another deed of a room that you want to create. Use that did. You will then be prompted for a direction. Give a direction and WOOSH, that room will appear in that direction. You now have a two room castle.Keep going and flesh out your castle with what you want. It is going to be kind of linear because you can only extend from a room you already have. If you want to cross connect locations you need to use the mark permit and a door permit. Go to the first room in your castle that you want to connect. Use the mark permit there. Then go to the room you want to connect that room to. Then use the door permit there. WOOSH, those two rooms should now be connected.There are also one way door permits, and doors that only let certain level characters through. You use those on existing doors between rooms to add more interest. Be careful, though, because you can cut yourself off. I haven't got the logic in there yet to warn you when you make a closed loop. If you get stuck, let me know and I'll sort it out.Oh, if anyone here is a you tuber, or a podcaster, wrapping up some of these guides into podcasts would be super wonderful. I'd promote them as much as I possibly can!Progression. I really don't like the idea of progression in games. The first versions of 6 Swords had difficulty firmly tied to how far you were from the road. That was more realistic, but, unfortunately, resulted in more boring game play. The monsters you met along the road were really just nuisances, and you had to hike all the way into the mountains to find anything interesting. So, reluctantly, I changed it so the monsters get progressively tougher as your team gets tougher. You can think of it as that as you get stronger, the lesser monsters don't even bother to come near you, and we're saving you the trouble of continually running away from tough ones.Monsters scale in terms of numbers. A goblin is always a goblin, with the same armor class and hit points. But at low level you might meet them in single digits, where at high level you will meet dozens of them. And, I tell you, there's little as fulfilling as having six character fight a hundred and something kobolds and to wipe the floor with them!Bounties don't scale, however. So it's probably a good idea to collect them as early as you can. Eventually you will be meeting monsters with enough money that the bounties aren't all the exciting anyway.

HeyThanks all for the responses @dan/c I've found out the ranger gives you some healing, but since i didn't used any spellcasting equipment on him, i seriously can't do much healing with him. Ever taught the ranger was weak, until i discovered the best bow in the game. I got the game! Now if only I wasn't so tired that trying to play makes my head all swirly...Also, twice the game has frozen, and the same half-second of sound plays over and over and over until Windows shuts the program down. I don't know what could be causing that to happen but it's definitely taught me to save as often as possible!Also, the navigation is so much harder than Liam made it look...

The same is with the entering text for black row itself, too. There's another typo I think in the text for the prisons ruin. It says something like it was a placed feared by all, but it could mean a place feared by all. And in the sever by the murals, it says a strange an unintellegibleMural, should there be an and instead of an? I mean and unintellegible instead of an unintellegible.

IronCross, regarding your question about accuracy:***Pro-tip below this point***Ordinarily I wouldn't give away info like that if there was a hint in-game for discovering it such as a book or character dialogue but since I can't remember if we put anything like that in there: equipment weight and dual-wielding both negatively impact accuracy. Assuming Matthias is using a bow, he's obviously not dual-wielding; is his equipment weight particularly high compared to his sex, versus say your main's weight compared to whatever stat governs their accuracy?

Don't discount it, update both video card drivers and audio drivers if there are any. I don't know, but I think some of that stuff, the external libs they call on will offload to the GPU even though there are no graphics.

Well, I just finished my first playthrough. I really enjoied the game from start to finish, and look forward to doing it again, missing sound files and all!If anybody is wondering, my party ranged from level 42 through level 47. I almost always found it necessary to always keep my healer around though, so I'm hoping on this subsequent time through if I choose priest, I will be free from that restriction a bit.Possible spoilerJade, I do have to say my warrior capped out in the low twenties for his last skill, everyone else capped out it seems in the low thirties.

Predators and Prey: Unfortunately we involuntarily made this very difficult for you all because the sound of the wolf dens does not attenuate with distance. So you're right, it's completely unreasonable...because it's a bug. We will get that fixed in the next patch.Laying Down the Law: You don't need to mark them with custom beacons. When you enter the relevant areas they will prompt you with a dialogue to mark them on your map. If you've actually set foot in a location like the High Ridge or Windy Bluff since activating this quest without getting a dialogue to mark it, there is probably something bugged—though others have passed this point of the quest with no problem so I'm not sure what you may have done differently to cause it to bug.

Regarding updates: Updating should not cause a problem with saved games. In theory you should be able to run the updater and then fire the game up as if nothing has changed. The only problems some people are encountering have to do with Windows restricting permissions to certain files, based on where you have installed your game. We're still trying to figure out if there's anything we can do on our end to prevent this from happening.@IronCross #433: the blindgamers.com address is Ian's and is the right place to send crashing errors as those are his domain. If he gets script errors, he'll forward them over to the outofsightgames.com address, and if crashing errors are sent to that address they get sent over to Ian usually anyway. So it all comes out in the wash, no worries.@Austin #435: That's not a bug—those are two separate quest lines. I do need to double check that the quest you're describing isn't bugged but I suspect you just aren't quite going where you need to in order to trigger it.@Aaron #446: Right-stick free look is definitely a feature we plan to implement. Frieda isn't the problem. The problem is that the quest seems to end in wilhelm dying ad never actually making it home. I just imagined the ending to be more positive...Regarding critical hits, those are purely random unless you have equipment or weapons that increase critical threat.

I mean, all you really need to do is raise his STR, it starts out pretty low as compared to a warrior...I've noticed that things tend to hit their stride around 15 of each skill, give or take a point, so for instance, 15 int means your mage won't miss much any more, 15 wil means they'll be doing good enough damage to two hit almost everything, 15 agi means that you'll always get your turn unless you get slowed, and you start dodging a fare amount if you've got the right skills, 15 dex means you'll parry consistently ETC.That said though, I've also found that 12 STR is pretty much the minimum you can get away with for decent strikes, any lower and your under powered, so at least shoot for that at first.Also, obviously the warrior gets stuff like warrior's strike and brute force pretty quick, where as it takes a bit to get sneak attack for the thief, so he's stuck with base weapon damage until then.From what I've seen, the warrior also tends to get more critical strikes and counter attacks too, maybe some kind of background class perk? but it could just be a fluke...But yeah, even the priestess can do some pretty serious damage if she gets enough strength, so really that's what you should be going for.As for Wilhelm, you just need to find Frita, who's in the house, though, you may need to visit the mines first, I don't know as I wandered into them from the sewers.SpoilersSlightEnd

I sent you a email via the forum the other day. It mustn't have made it to you. I'll send you a PM. I can only script using the jaws language. If you have a copy of jaws, you could try my guitar rig scripts if you like. They'll allow you to build a custom rack, add or swap out components to an existing preset, bypass or delete components from a preset, turn on/off right left channels, hi q, adjust input and output, search presets, as well as accessing the controls directly from the GR window if you wanted to do that. I think you mentioned being able to access the parameters, but when I try to do that in Sonar or Reaper, I just get a massive list of stuff saying p001, p002, or something. I'm sure parameters in older versions of GR5  were labelled properly.

I have a question about stats for characters. Both Simeon and Matthias both miss a lot. Simeon I kind of wrote that off because he's a thief and not a fighter. But, Matthias is level 16 right now, and he misses quite a lot. His dex is like 18 though. So what other reasons could there be that this could be happening. I did get him a better bow than what he started out with, and I did get Simeon a better weapon, though I did try to keep it light. Do people work well only with their own weapons, or is it something else I'm overlooking. I can't imagine why it would be that reason though, or why fill the game with lootable weapons. I kind of need him to balance out my party, and I need him with me right now or I'd switch him out for Simeon or Gwen. Simeon's level 17 I think, but can do other things that are useful rather than attack, and he can be quite powerful, when he hits.

Reality is the way reality is.  If you dont' push for common sense there's trivial lawsuits.  If trivial lawsuits win common sense goes right out the window and people are making out with money that doesn't realistically belong to them.  think about all the people who goe to coffee shops and spill hot drinks on themselves, then blame the shop for their idiocy.  I just heard of one guy at a Walmart who claimed that the store he went to, is to fault for his having broken his hip, after he went to look at a watermellon.  Apparently, part of the display was set up in such a way that he was able to get his foot stuck under a pallet beneath a box and fell over.  The problem I see with it is that Walmarts all over the globe use these things, and, uh, no one else is getting stuck in that way.  Needless to say, the guy was awarded some 7million dollars.  This happens all the time.

before writing this reply, I had a good think. here are my thoughts on the matter, from all 4 sides. first, my own side. if I allow you to touch my equipment, that means I trust you, and by all means, you're free to do so. but if I  haven't, and you still do, I would pretty much straight up, tell you to go to hell. I don't care if it's a county/district device, whether my own... I paid for it, I take care of it, I decide over it. if they don't like it, they shouldn't provide me with one. having said all that, if I'm not around, and the teacher isn't aware of our agreement, then I will not blame the teacher, since they only wanted to try and defend me. if it's a case of the teacher knowing our agreement, and they start nickpicking, the story changes. same goes for if I'm in the room with you, and I pass on my equipment. in other words, as long as there's an agreement between us, and the teacher is aware of, they should have no saying over it.

First, thank u for the info on smugglers.  sec, i'm sorry that u and others disagree with what i say in terms of sounds.  because i play or have played alot of text based games, i hardly agree on what your comparison logic may be.  we are in a different time zone ware even a sighted person wants sound to a game and they can see it no matter how grate or horrible it may be.  who wants to hear a good movie in silence?  especially if u can't see it.  it is because of the type of game a dark room is why games of this need sounds.  of corse again, there could and should be setting added ware for those such as yourself dark and others, who don't like sound or don't prefer it, then u can mute it out.  but let us be realistic hear.  unless you are a heavy sleeper, or completely dead, u are not gona gather wood to keep a fire going in silence not with out someone hearing u.  this is a game that is truely in a grateness of worlds ware even those who can see, who have had and still do have games extremely similar to this, have sounds.  considering the actions that are being dun.  with all do respect, we are not in the begaining times ware games don't have sound anymore.  we atleast should have the option.  yes the text is grate  but we already have to emaginate enough based on what we already can't see.  like i said this is not the only text based game i've played.  some i've not even posted hear as of yet.  and yes this game as well have there place.  i'm not completely against them like some who i know of that are and honestly i can't blame them but at the same time there reasoning for being against them is based on factors that these games as awesome and good and fun as it may be, have no sound what so ever.  just because we are blind or vip doesn't mean we all like sound true, but it doesn't mean we don't either.  there are alot of text games i've played that don't have sound though i've played them less because of that.  and its also because of that ware even i've turned alot of them down.  we're in a new age now ware text games as good as they are to some degree, without sound have not as much of a heavy appeal as they once did.  however, unlike people that i know of and all i do try to keep an opened mind for this sort of thing and this is why i can say that i've played alot of text games and still do.  including this one.  i even am trying to slowly get in to mud games though i don't understand mud clients etc.  key word is, trying.  but again, this isn't the 19-70's or so when games didn't have that much sounds if any at all.  in this game a dark room, i would love to hear the people and what they are doing as u are going through the game.  i could tell u several off hand that i could send this game to and based on no sounds, they would turn it down with out even blinking twice.  i'm not sighted, but, i know that all games i played i don't always to be silent either but yet i do again try to have some of an opened mind and to not knock it before trying it.  it took a long time to get to that point however.    i still have this game and don't plan to delete it because of what i stated earlier but based on what in my opinion it lacks, its taking a while for it to hit me as much as a title that could be text based side scrolor  not or otherwise that may have sound in it, to get in to.  thx for reading and listening.  again, i'm sorry yall disagree but it is because there are not many who agree in this is why we have more text based as we don't like hearing what we do in games.    take care.

First, the game doesn't say scirmish, it just says "how many soldiers do you wish to send on the max 33" for example. And then, after my general spoke to me and I press any key like the game says, nothing happens.

Can anyone confirm working/broken status of a few quests? Warning, possible spoilers if you haven't come across these.Predators and pray: I found three of the wolf dens no problem. The one up by the north bridge... I've been circling it for hours and hours, it won't trigger anything. The range wherein you can hear wolves snarling is of considerable size, it can be heard in areas on both sides of the bridge, and I swear I've been to every path and shrub around there and it just won't trigger the fight with the wolves.Laying down the law: I've been to bandit campsights. I've been to high ridges. I've been to windy bluffs. I've been to plateaus and the dear path. Nothing happens to indicate that progress is being made towards finding ambush sites.Since the captain said I had to mark them on my map, I've started placing out custom becons at these locations thinking that'd trigger something; but nope.Another tidbit about the wolf hunts: I know I posted about this in the release topic, but unless there's something I'm missing I think it's a little unreasonable in it's current form. I'd like to know what the actual dimentions of the audable range are, but the range is huge with no indicator of whether you're getting warmer or colder.I'm not necessarily asking for solutions to be spoiled. I just want to know for sure that I just haven't figured something out yet and not that I'm the victim of a bug here.Thanks.

Once those guys who hold all the other records got involved, the record would be about 10 seconds. How the hell they do normal cubes in 5 seconds is a mystery to me. I just find it strange there isn't already a record. Seems whoever wanted to get in touch with whoever organises these record attempts, could have the world record for a few hours or so. If there genuinely isn't yet a record set for the touch cube, someone could do it, and then for the rest of their lives they could say they once held a Rubik's cube world speed record.
